A Woman Absolutely Can - and Did - Run This Country: Edith Wilson
For proponents of full equality, it is especially important to know history.

Conservatives and reactionaries dwell, linger, fester, rot, and compost there. But if you want to plant a seed in one's mind, and have any chance at all of seeing it germinate, history is the fertile soil in which to bury your bulb.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edith_Wilson">Edith Wilson took on many of the responsibilities of the Presidency while Woodrow Wilson was largely incapacitated. She did so in a time of immense turmoil: the "War to End All Wars" had just ended, and Wilson's domestic and foreign policy agenda was jam-packed.

Be prepared to hear: "but that was before the bomb," or "those were simpler times," or any number of other protests. Don't despair. If you pull a few anecdotes from her memoir, and from scholarly writings about her actions during that period, you may later discover that your planted pod produces progressive pansies.

Sorry. It's my grandfather's teachings coming through. It's time now to do some things to produce the fall harvest, and I get farmish antsy this time of year.

; )

1. interesting. i didn't know that.
even though hillary is not my #1 choice, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that she can run this country.

if she is the nominee i will support her 100%.

9. Grandpa had a cow
And he walked a mile to the bus stop to get a ride to work. In two feet of snow and a blizzard. No gloves. For five cents pay.

3. Edith Wilson was not the first, nor the last, woman to assume the duties of "US President".

There are a handful of women who have actually run this country
from time to time over the last 275 years, and not a one of them
ever did a worse job than the MAN they were propping up.

12. I actually have a folder full of relevant articles, because this subject intrigued me awhile back...
But that folder is on my currently-dead external disk, so I can't
access it!

The most recent example that comes to mind is Nancy Reagan.
Ronnie didn't instantly bounce back from being shot like the Media
told us he did- numerous White House staffers have admitted
that he was out of it for MONTHS after Hinkley shot him.

The guy was bedridden- They were injecting him with amphetamines
to trot him out for a 15-minute photo-op, and then walking him
straight back to bed.
Nancy was controlling access to him, and making all the thousands
of day-to-day decisions that a CONSCIOUS president spends 18 hours a day on.

No one has actually admitted that she forged his signature to any significant paperwork,
but it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to do the math, knowhutImean?

13. "Tell them we're doing the best that we can."......Nancy Reagan, caught prompting
Ronnie during an impromptu press opportunity at the Ranch in Santa Barbara (iirc).

Ronnie had already left the building......

10. I've NEVER doubted the fact that not only
can a woman effectivly and successfully run America, I believe there are many women who have had more influence than we will ever know over the way this country has been run. Elinor Rosevelt for one.

I didn't know the specifics about Mrs.Wilson- Thanks for the info.

Anyone who sincerly questions the ability of a person to be president based solely on the lack (or presence) of a penis is stuck in a prison of their own making.

peace~
