Who's with me?

Wasn't that http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=2656529&mesg_id=2656529">video brilliant?!?

I'm the superstitious type. This is a move that can unite even Yankees fans and Red Sox fans.

- Dave

P.S. Edited to add link. I do not have the permission of the NFL, lame54, or his beautiful wife, unapatriciated (who has already warned me to "back off" about his butt). So sue me.

P.P.S. And I mean this. Listen up. Study the video. There will be NO SCHISMS!!! NONE. We must all do The Buttscratch in an orthodox fashion. This is not going to devolve into http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Life_of_Brian">Holy Gourds and offcast shoes, or right hand, left hand splits. There is video, people. Jesus!

47. Dave did I mention my oldest is an ordained minister?
I mentioned before my youngest was unable to marry his love of seven years, because he would lose most of his disability. Sooo his brother became an ordained minster and we had a beautiful wedding with family and friends. Lame and I were together for nine years but that simple ceremony made us feel even more connected. What I'm saying is don't let someone else's bigotry and unjust laws stand in the way of pledging your life and love to each other. Just remember to put us on the guest list.

Much of his family lives in MA and RI. They've been after us ever since the MA SJC ruled in favor of marriage.

As you may or may not know, http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=virginia+gay+marriage">Virginia passed a measure that purports to prohibit the recognition of *any* rights - including private companies' DP benefits.

This is on its way to the US Supreme Court, no doubt about it.

I know what you're saying about the importance of the ceremony, and including family and friends in that special day. It's great that your younger son did a ceremony.

"Just remember to put us on the guest list."

Count on it!!! We'll do it, but we're in no rush, as we await the outcome of the Virginia case.

49. did I understand it right?
VA can prohibit same sex benefits offered by private companies? We have stores in VA and our company has offered same sex benefits for a while now. Can they get around this by being based in California (we have a lot of L&G's in upper management and corporate level)? We are in Georgia now but our company pays overtime based on California law not Georgia because they choose to. Damn we need federal laws like yesterday.

50. To the Extent That an Employer's Benefits Are Protected by ERISA...
Edited on Sat Jan-12-08 12:46 AM by CorpGovActivist
... it automatically gets yanked out of the states' hands, and belongs in Federal court.

Ironically, employers have used http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=erisa+preemption">preemption in the past to try to bar state law claims brought by workers. GOP admins fought tooth, nail, and claw to help develop and craft the law and the caselaw on this.

Now, LGBT equality advocates in Virginia can use that principle to force this into the Federal courts. It'll wend its way up through the http://www.ca4.uscourts.gov/">Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, then to the US Supreme Court - where the last several major rights cases have come out in our favor. Even allowing for the two additions under 43, things look cautiously optimistic.

Most employers here have ignored the provisions that purport to strip already-granted DP benefits, on the legal advice of counsel.

http://www.equalityvirginia.org">EqualityVirginia.org has some great info on the status of things. Patrick and I have talked about doing an "in lieu of a wedding, donate to EV.org" mailout to family and friends, but are holding out hope.

40. That video was GREAT, but you call that a buttscratch? PUH-LEEZE!
As an aging guy who scratches his ass a lot, I say
that was a PATHETIC EXCUSE for a buttscratch!

It ended five yards short of the scrimmage line;
it neither lifted nor separated!

You got me excited enough to watch that video with this post.
But the buttscratch scene was the LOW POINT of the film, IMHO.

I gave it rec #202 anyway- Lame uses the same coffee grinder as me,
so that really brought his message home and made it personal, y'know?

Out-friggin-standing!

"As an aging guy who scratches his ass a lot, I say
that was a PATHETIC EXCUSE for a buttscratch!"

Practice makes perfect. Give the guy a break.

"It ended five yards short of the scrimmage line;
it neither lifted nor separated!"

:spray:

"You got me excited enough to watch that video with this post."

Good! Art imitated life for damn sure, huh?

"But the buttscratch scene was the LOW POINT of the film, IMHO."

Everyone's a critic. I thought it was a subtler, even poignant homage to the scratch, tastefully done for the more sensitive in our midst. Could he have added the head-to-the-ceiling yawn, stretch, scratch head and ass at same time? Probably. But by employing a sense of minimalism, he invited his viewers to retouch his "canvass" with their own strokes.

:P

"I gave it rec #202 anyway- Lame uses the same coffee grinder as me,
so that really brought his message home and made it personal, y'know?"

Much like the set of Friends, it felt cozy and familiar. I agree that there was clearly some forethought given to staging.

We could take this on the road!

; )
