9. It's a clever strategy:

Highlighting his outrageous, KKK-style racism makes their garden-variety racism look palatable. They can say, "Look, I condemned Ron Paul, therefore I can't possibly be a racist." It's like a big racism inoculation for the R's and Fox News, so when they go all batshit racist on Obama later in the year, they can feel morally clean about it.
