Schools 'should accommodate Muslim needs'
The article states that muslims are not permitted to engage in sexual activity during the month of fasting. In fact it is not permitted during the hours of dawn to dusk during Ramadan
State schools should avoid sex education classes and swimming lessons during Ramadan to cater for the needs of Muslim pupils, says the Muslim Council of Britain.

The recommendations, issued today, are included in a 72-page document of Muslim-friendly guidelines on topics such as uniform, halal meals, issues relating to Ramadan, physical education and sex education.

The report, called Towards Greater Understanding, draws on existing educational practices and is aimed at ensuring Muslim pupils are 'appropriately accommodated for' so they become part of mainstream school life.

The MCB claims Muslim pupils may consider it too risky to swim during Ramadan as 'the potential for swallowing water is very high' and they may break their fast. It suggests that schools with a significant number of Muslim pupils should try to avoid scheduling swimming lessons during Ramadan to 'remove unnecessary barriers to full participation'.

2. Ramadan last for a month
I think that would be discrimination against non Muslims to force them to go to class give them class work & tests while muslims get excused from class work..

5. If your religion is so strict that secular public schools don't work for you...
a) find a private school to accommodate you
b) home school
c) suck it up and realize that none of this kind of insignificant shit is going to determine whether or not you get into heaven or whatever

For the record, this isn't directed at Islam (I would respond the same to similar requests from Christians, Jews, etc.). Public school is a place for public education, not for dancing around everyone's religions.

6. Sex ed is the best way to keep kids from having sex
Who wants to have sex after having to endure an hour long lecture about STD's and unwanted pregnancy? Who could possibly find anything erotic about black and white diagrams of a flaccid penis, a uterus and egg and sperm?

Those of us who had sex ed in school can remember the anticipation of knowing you were going to have sex ed only to be greatly disappointed at how incredibly boring it really was.

8. Schools in my area have been "accommodating" Muslim

students for some time, along with many others. Students of any religion have been allowed to opt out of sex education no matter what time of year. Ditto swimming which would only be an issue for secondary students here, anyway. Keep in mind that dietary laws pertaining to Ramadan do not apply to children. As for school lunch's any time pork is involved that is noted and an alternative is offered, also matzo is served during Passover as an alternative for Jewish students, and some of the same restrictions come into play with Orthodox Jewish students. Keep in mind that most of these things have been going on since I was in grade school in the sixties and are really not a problem unless of course someone wants them to be, but why?:wtf:
