Well, well, well . . . an entirely different audio tape of the Iran/US standoff in the Straight of Hormuz has emerged from the Iranian side. This one contains no ominous threats of "I am coming to youuuuuuu" or mentions any scary explosions. Just an amicable conversation between the two boat commanders.

The AP reports: "The video broadcast by Iran's English-language channel Press-TV showed an Iranian commander in a speedboat contacting an American sailor via radio, asking him to identify the US vessels and state their purpose. 'Coalition warship number 73, this is an Iranian patrol,' the Iranian commander is heard to say in English, asking for the vessel to confirm its number. 'This is coalition warship number 73. I am operating in international waters,' replied the American voice." Not exactly fightin' words, as they would say in Texas.

So much for the big. international. incident. Whom to believe, the Pentagon or the Iranians? Tough call these days.

Back on Fantasy Island, President Chucklenutz seems determined to establish SOME kind of legacy, and forecast that he could produce a lasting peace between Israel and Palestine during his remaining months in office. Again, from the AP: "Mr. Bush said he is convinced that both Israeli and Palestinian leaders understand 'the importance of democratic states living side by side in peace,' and noted that he has a one-year deadline for progress on his watch. 'I'm on a timetable,' he told reporters. 'I've got 12 months.'" We all wish it were less.

Finally, a look at the primaries, with Bill Richardson calling it quits, billionaire Bloomberg contemplating a candidacy, and John Kerry endorsing Obama.
