Native son or not, I can't see the rich country club GOP guy winning there right now, even among Republicans.

The heartwarming story of being born rich and getting richer by buying out companies and outsourcing jobs.....it's really not the climate for that kind of thing right now.

6. Yeah but they have so many other reality challenged candidates
I would think they would go for McCain or Huck over Mittens as they can better fake a populist position.

4. There is a right-wing kook contingent in Michigan
Even though Michigan suffered under the hands of a complete maniac (John Engler) for years, till he was finally termed out, the rightwingers in Michigan blame all their econonmic woes on current Governor Jennifer Granholm. And don't forget, up in the thumb is Timothy McVeigh land. There are some very rural areas.

7. Michigan suffers from Republican policies and here is Romney's take on it. Jeez I hate liars and
this guy will say anything. Just like Bush, facts won't interfere with his decisions.

Beware of liberal leaders, Romney says
Thursday, January 10, 2008
By Dave Murray
The Grand Rapids Press

GRAND RAPIDS -- The rest of the country could follow Michigan's economic slide if Democrats claim the White House next year, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Wednesday.

The former Massachusetts governor played on his Michigan roots during two campaign stops, saying his "life experiences are highly relevant to Michigan and getting Michigan back on track again."

Romney also took a shot at the state's Democratic leaders, saying the Michigan's woes would be replicated if liberals are elected.

"All people have to do is look at the tax policies of Gov. Jennifer Granholm as a good test case for what would happen to the rest of the nation," he said after a town hall meeting at Grand Valley State University's Eberhard Center that attracted about 300 people.

Of course she is cleaning up the mess Engler made, but it's all her fault!

It's kind of like a warmup for when the Democratic candidate wins the presidency; the righties will blame him/her for the mess, not the previous 8 years of hell under * and Darth.

I don't think Romney will do well here, native son or not.
