Golf Channel Reporter's Apology for "Lynch Tiger Woods" Comment NOT ACCEPTED
Edited on Thu Jan-10-08 11:51 AM by Krashkopf
Golf Channel reporter Kelly Tilghman has "apologized" for suggesting that

young golfers who want to challenge Tiger Woods should "lynch him in a back alley" saying “I also apologize to our viewers who MAY HAVE BEEN offended by my comments."

Well, Kelly, that "apology" is not accepted.

The idea of lynching a black man, even if said with no evil intent, CANNOT be divorced from the ugly racist history of actual lynchings in this country. Many people, both black and white, are rightfully offended by what Tilghman said. Her comment is NO DIFFERENT than if an entertainment report talking about Jon Stewart said “The Daily Show's ratings numbers are so high that young talk show hosts who want to challenge him ARE GOING TO HAVE TO LOAD HIM INTO A BOX CAR AND SENT HIM STRAIGHT TO THE GAS CHAMBERS.”

Is ANYONE really going to be “O.K.” with that? Tilghman is a PROFESSIONAL JOURNALIST. She has to be held to a higher standard than the average man or woman who says something stupid. What she has done is given a “non-apology” – It is not a question of whether some of her viewers (or the public in general) MAY HAVE BEEN offended - It is clear from the public reaction that many people, including a white guy like me, WERE offended. It DOES NOT MATTER that Tiger Woods was not offended by it. If Tilghman wants to deny that she had any racist intent, fine, but, she should have to admit, publicly, that she “made a very stupid, very racist comment,” and she should “apologize to all of those were UNDERSTANDABLY OFFENDED by it.”

2. She Is A Talking Head Not A Journalist
She needs to hand in her resignation and go to work as a maid at Motel 6.

5. That is some ugly shit there. What's worse, is that we've gone backwards, and twenty years ago,
she would have been fired. And, rightly so.

Now, she issues a mush mouth mea culpa and we're all supposed to just go on about our business. MKJ

6. Thank you--an apology with a neutralizing phrase is worse than no apology at all.
I'm sick to death of the offenders getting away with it.

9. Okay, now. Everyone shake her hand and, in turn, puke on her shoes.
What an idiot. "I didn't mean to offend." Yeah, sure.

11. Unfortunately, Al Sharpton called The Golf Channel yesterday, now...

she's suspended for two weeks.

Still, I think she should have her lawyers play the 'Don Imus Card' and blame any racist remarks you make about Blackfolk, as just...mimicing what they say about themselves.

It got Imus his job back, so hey, she should make reference to rapper's "Ice Cube & The Lynch Mob" then, the powerful White-racists who control The Golf Channel will be compelled to re-instate here.

12. Lynching comments about anyone are offensive. Let's remember though that
Tiger Woods does not consider himself black. He considers himself multicultural.

After I leaned that I have alsways referred to him as multicultural.

13. Very true about Tiger. As realized by his official comments now:
according to his Agent, anyway, this whole thing w/The Golf Channel is, "A NON-ISSUE!"

Period.

It seems like Tiger is being a good little American, and fully realizing *that any racial issue he wants to make is being heard by all* of us powerful-Caucasoids who control ALL strings that open PGA purses.
