Sadly, they give a bonanza to the insurance companies, mandating insurance. They say they would regulate insurance and make sure it is available to folks like me, who work full time (actually more than full time; I have a couple of other jobs) but whose employers don't give them insurance benefits. That's great, but since they also want those who have employer insurance to have subsidies to buy additional insurance, I don't see the "insurance gap" closing. They also want to limit the amount of coverage you can get, because "overinsuring" drives up costs.
Socialized medicine takes all these problems away. But I guess this nation would rather be the worst in health care of all developed nations.
The AMA is thinking inside the box, afraid to anger the insurance industry, which has been ruling America through lobbyists since at least the Sixties (see the book "Who Rules America" for a brilliant expose of them and the drug industry). I guess it is better than nothing--I was glad to see that they decided they can only force you to get insurance if you make over 51K (reverse that number and you've got about what I gross a year), but it is still thinking inside the box, and won't solve our problems.
