I just got a scary thought, what if he asked Liebermann??? Sorry, you all can scream now.

I think Giuliani would likely pick him as well. Both need help with the fundies and Huck would help drive up fundie turnout.

Actually I think it would play well in the GE. People who believe his old "maverick independent" reputation will eat it up and those who think Lieberman is still a Democrat will get all warm and fuzzy about the bipartisanship and "reaching out". The vast masses of voters are misinformed and would buy this. A McCain/Leberman ticket would be a formidable threat. Republicans always fall in line eventually - regardless of the squawking they would do about this too. Ill-informed independents and even some ill-informed Dems would go for it in droves.

McCain already appeals to those that like maverick, indies. He doesn't need to shore up that side. What he needs is to bring back the fundies. Lieberman repels those voters because of his pro-choice record (one of the few things Joe actually still seems to get right)

The biggest harm it would do is depress some fundie turnout a bit, but since they are more numerous in states that would go R anyway, and since most of them will fall in line regardless (they know the VP can do bugger all about choice), it might not be enough.

Interesting thought anyway. I wouldn't say Lieberman would be his first choice - I suspect he'll go for somebody young and charismatic (to Republicans that is) instead. Steve Largent maybe?
