The Oregon Primary is May 20th, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay past the point of having any impact at all.

Hell, American Samoa goes on March 10th and Guam goes on May 3rd.

Why the fuck do Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina get to decide who our candidate is? No offense to them, of course, but that's hardly a representative sampling of the entire country from where I sit.

This really sucks.

2. Well, two social conservative states and two libertarian states sounds like a good mix to me!
:sarcasm:

I hear you. California doesn't get much say either, but we're expected to finance a big chunk of this three ring circus.

7. Well, it's possible that California could have a big impact
This will certainly go to Feb 5th, and if Edwards and Kucinich are still in there, HRC could take California easily. I know people who plan to vote Kucinich on principle, and I'm trying to convince them that they could do a hell of a lot more with their votes elsewhere.

:scared:

3. I hear ya.
Washington's is earlier than Oregon's, but it's still after Super Tuesday.

I wish we could have all the primaries on one day, like the elections.

11. Agreed...
One day. Oregon couldn't be less relevant, and we'd swing pretty damn liberal. Shit, Kucinich might even have a chance here!

5. It's just how the dumb a$$ process works
And, yeah, it's dumb a$$, because between the M$M, polls, 'super' delegates, and primary scheduling -- the 'little folk' (the majority of American voters) are left behind.

9. Well, MI and FL were warned...
that's their own damn fault.

Also, it kind of seems Karmic that FLA is getting iced out after what they've put us through. ;-)

19. Exactly. Mark my words: it's throw the state to the Republicans.
People are pissed. It violated GOP rules, too, but their candidates are here stumping and fundraising, their ads and signs are everywhere, and they're getting people's attention. There was a Ron Paul rally at a major intersection here in town yesterday. Nothing for any Dems.

8. My state's used to be in June, along with our state and local primaries
We got kicked up to Super Tuesday for this year.

I agree with SeattleGirl that our primaries should be held on one day.

not living in Oregon but having the primaries scattered over such a long period with us at the tail end.

15. WV's is May 13th, so i feel your frustration...
How is there "equal representation" when, by the time almost half of the country participates in their primaries, most likely all but perhaps the two front-runners of either party will have become irrelevant to the process?

After Iowa, Biden and Dodd bowed out... i foresee a couple more saying farewell now that NH is counted. And "Super Tuesday" is only 27 days away... once that's done, the rest of us will have no choice but to pick from whoever's left standing, instead of voting based on who fits our personal platform.

The election process needs to be changed, and as much as potential candidates may hate it, the change needs to start with a single primary election day, in order to give ALL voters an equal say in who will face each other in November, not just the folks in Iowa, NH, SC, and Nevada.

Think Blue, you are correct. And that will happen about the same time college football institutes a playoff system for the nat'l championship.
