In imagining the Dem candidate debate against the repuke candidate in the future

I just can't see Obama doing that well in a debate against the republican candidate. He just doesn't have a strong message, except for "hope", and once spent, that won't carry him through.

Clinton or Edwards, either one, would do better. Edwards' message is so strong, and so full of truthful information, he would totally kick ass.

I was thinking about it after the debates Saturday night, and I just don't think Obama would be able to be that strong. I'm not sure his convictions/positions are that strong, except for the message of "hope" and "a unified America".

Modern television debates are about image, not substance. Picture Obama standing next to McCain, Thompson, or Giuliani. It'd be over before it began.

While I think Obama's got good ideas -- all three of the candidates are, to be honest, pretty similar when you get down to the nitty gritty -- I don't think ideas are even that important in television debate. It's about the sound bite, and how good you look saying it. Obama would kill.
