Thanks Alot Dolly (Jesus Luvin) BIGB**bs Parton....

Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede dinner theater in Orlando sold, closed

Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede closed abruptly Monday afternoon when its owners told the staff of the giant dinner theater that they had sold the attraction's 13-acre site east of Walt Disney World to an undisclosed buyer.

Although rumors of a sale and layoffs had circulated among employees for the past week, the company had adamantly denied as recently as Monday morning that a shutdown was in the works.

"We at Dixie Stampede have been blessed, but I am a firm believer in timing and opportunity," Parton said. "This was an opportunity we could not pass up. We're exploring our options now and we will be back better than ever!"

Nice Huh!!!!!!!....Parton who publicly professes Jesus is her strength and Savior basically denies that a sell is in place and essentially leaves those who made her money out in the cold....I'm sure she is planing on a new facility...NOT..

Dolly is this what Jesus would DO?????

There's a Dixie Stampede there too.

6. Or another one in Pigeon Forge, TN
That one has been close to belly-up since it opened and even after she bought it. This in a town where you could open a pickle museum and it be a successful tourist attraction.

have been to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg many times. The tickets must have been too expensive, after everybody spent their money on bullwhips and taffy.

8. Isn't that the truth! Don't forget the Go-Karts!
I shudder to think about Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, they are the biggest tourist traps I've seen in the world. Yet I end up going back each year before Christmas with my wife and son to Dollywood to see the lights and visit Santa.

9. I love Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, and yes, they are tourist traps.
But the shopping is great in the outlet malls in Pigeon Forge. And the Smokies are breathtaking.

11. The Smokies are outstanding.
I live right in the middle of them! I look out my back door across a few cow pastures and little thickets to see them towering over me. I love it here, even though its politics are little "off".

10. Not according to this statement.
"Dixie Stampede spokesman Pete Owens said the attraction had just completed its best Christmas season. He said the decision to close had nothing to do with a lack of customer interest."

25. You've never been on International Drive in Orlando have you?
Do you have any idea what the price for 13 acres of land close to Disney World and Universal Studio's theme parks is going for nowadays? It has to be some of the highest priced real estate in the US. I wouldn't doubt we'll see another 2000 room hotel on that site soon. Much more profitable than a show club since the Orlando Convention Center (I believe it's second largest in the US for now) is right down the street.

I'm with Walldude. I don't think this is Dolly's fault. Something tells me she wasn't in the boardroom when this decision came down. I also don't think this is the last we'll hear from Dolly about this.

26. Oh whatever. It's a fair comment.
She uses her faith to help sell her brand, so it's fair to question if her business actions are as Christian as she claims they are.

As long as we're not getting rounded up and beheaded or fed to the lions, I'm good.

Or close facilities that don't make money?

27. It's how she did it--not very compassionate.
Rumors were circulating, but the employees were told they were fine. A day later or so, they were all fired. Not cool.

19. Closing a business or selling one is NOT a new phenomenon, BUT
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 04:15 PM by SoCalDem
doing it in such a callous way is never a "nice" thing to do. For someone who trades on the image of being "down-home" friendly, and "just like y'all & all", that was not a winning way to lay off all her workers..

They probably did not give them any warning sooner, so the business could wring every last drop of work from them during the Christmas season..:grr:

Fucking with Dolly? First of all it was not Dolly who decided to close the place it was the "owners". She can't control everything she has a stake in. Second, I have worked for Dolly on a number of occasions and Christian or not she is one of the kindest, nicest, most decent, most down to earth people I have ever met in my life. And that shit ain't easy to find in the music business. Every mention of the Theater says, "the owners", "the company", "the management" yet you take it on yourself to bash Dolly because her name is on the marquee and she is the spokeswoman. Or is it because she's Christian? Being a Jew I could give a fuck what her religion is except for the fact that I know from personal experience she is an incredible human being and the world could use more like her.

edit for speeling

23. Well she has that southern accent and sings country music so....
she's obviously a fundy, right winger, right? I've never met her but your description of Dolly is pretty much what I hear the unanimous feeling of everyone who's worked with her or met her. A genuine class act who's done a lot for the people of her hometown and just people in general.

Oh but let's blame this all on her and in the meantime demean her for her appearance. Somehow I don't think this is the last we've heard from Dolly on this situation. It's totally not her style even if she's just the celebrity spokesperson.
