Fort Lewis soldier killed in Iraq; first death of 2008

A Fort Lewis soldier was killed by a homemade bomb Saturday in Iraq -- the first death of 2008 in the war for a man or woman in uniform with links to Washington.

The Defense Department said Pfc. Jason F. Lemke, 30, of West Allis, Wis., was killed when the explosion struck his vehicle in Ibrahim Al Adham. He was with the 4th Stryker Brigade, which was sent to Iraq in April.

Fort Lewis said Lemke enlisted in the Army in 2004 and was sent to the Pierce County base in 2005.

Edited to add, RIP all who die or are injured in this Occupation. I will continue to work to get it stopped. Extremely sad sarcasm was meant by "we're number one" and I have noticed that "another soldier dies" posts get very few views these days. Onward.

1. I realize this is sarcasm but it's still offensive to appear to cheer a soldier's death
even if to make a political point.

2. Well Fort Lewis is definitely in WA
'cause I was based there in '86. Have read about way too many deaths and injuries in the paper, and a co-worker's son is included in that total.
