Some serious racist writings from Ron Paul about to be revealed...
The article is set to appear in Friday's print edition and today's online edition of The New Republic.

New Republic highlights candidate’s racist writings
Advocate Staff Report
January 08, 2008
The full story about Ron Paul's newsletters, written by The New Republic's James Kirchick, has been held until later today, Kirchick said. The story includes copies of the Paul's newsletters. To read it, visit http://www.TNR.com.

http://www.victoriaadvocate.com/847/story/177598.html#

The newspaper in circulation this morning has more than the online version above:

Rascism, homophobia writings resurface in Paul campaign
snip
Paul published newsletters for decades that included editorials calling black people "animals," gays "limp-wristed" and accusing Martin Luther King of being a "pedophile," said James Kirchick, a writer for The New Republic.
snip
Paul's camp said the congressmann did not write the newsletter editorials, and he regrets not having better reviewed the content in them.
snip
"The newspapers were called The Ron Paul Freedom Report and the Ron Paul Political Report," Kirchick said by phone. "There's no way he didn't know what was in there." snip

Yeah, it's getting ugly out there for Ron Paul.

10. Thanks. Glad to spring it from the local paper. We usually get
Sunday's breaking news by Wednesday. It's unusual for them to be ahead of the curve. And it was front page, Section B! They didn't even load it on the front page!

Bet there'll be some interesting ideas that he'll have to explain.

come back to bite him in the ass?:rofl: The man HAS accepted donations from Stormfront..com, a White Supremacist Group, fercryingoutloud. He's a racist.

8. Yeah, this stuff goes back to the late 1970's. The newsletters
were produced from several decades. Even if it's been five or more years since he wrote hate-op-eds, that's nothing in the political timeframe.

Kirchick must have called the newspapers serving Paul's district, and the Victoria Advocate would be one of the bigger ones.

28. And the damn newsletter has been published, with his name on the masthead, for almost THIRTY YEARS--
and only now does Dr. Evil feel the need to disavow what's been written in his name?!

Not only does that strike me as dishonest, it strikes me as a person too collossally stupid to be the president of the US.

5. while I have heard the excuse that "he did not write that"
I still think it shows a problem in his campaign if it's being communicated in his name. His "States' Rights" stance, as well as some other things which he has said bother me for the same reason. If he's not racist, he sure is pandering to them, and the whole Southern Strategy, which is equally shameful, imo.

His supporters will rabidly deny these claims and say he is being smeared because of his anti-war and anti-tax/government stances, but that doesn't make it okay. I find it sad that not only is the guy the most logical Republican candidate (which doesn't say much), but that he is making inroads into the liberal anti-war voters despite his being truly conservative - his desire to remake America into a "Christian Nation" and his distancing from equal rights issues, as well as his desire to gut safety & environmental regulations and education are far too bothersome to ignore, and I wish more people on the left understood that. His policies are pro-rich, pro-business, and anti-American, despite his attempts to brand himself as a strict Constitutionalist.

7. Daily Kos reported on his racist writings
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 11:11 AM by ihavenobias
several months ago and again last month as discussed in this clip:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dPD832-gsw&eurl

EDIT: As you can see the Ron Paul Internet Army invaded the clip and posted all sorts of over the top comments and (of course) denials, in addition to lowering the rating of the clip.

are always ragging on Daily Kos. At least they do a good job at vetting their stories.

12. Ron Paul's numbers are JUST high enough that TPTB are concerned
that he'll be a spoiler for the conservative vote (as Perot was). Paul's numbers couldn't ever get high enough to be a serious contender, IMO, but he could certainly split the conservative vote. At least, that's my take on it. Not to say that Paul's skeltons aren't offensive enough, in any case.

for example, him not returning the donation of $500 from a well known white power group is just more fuel for the fire.

18. Yeah, it makes it all better until Paul were to try and shut down
Social Security, federal funding for public education, financial institution regulation and security, etc. One conversation he had with someone (Tucker Carlson, I think) had to do with the fed govt regulating food, etc. HE said he didn't think they should be requiring pasteurization of milk. Said he figured a company would realize the benefit of doing it themselves without regulation.

22. He's nuts, of course.
My response, as you probably surmised, was sarcastic. There are a lot of people who seem to truly believe that his stance on the war cures all of his other ills. That's almost as nuts as he is.

What I've never understood is why anyone would support him over someone like Kucinich. Same war stance, without the racism and anti-government nonsense, plus Dennis is about as progressive as they get.

20. That's why I can't figure out Paul supporters. They chase Sean Hannity down the street, mean while
Ron Paul is just as bad, maybe worse. Sure he wants to get out of Iraq, but what about abolishing the department of education? Or now his racist newsletters? I mean, are these people seriously drinking some kind of Ron Paul kool-aid, I don't get it.

26. They are radical chic poseurs. It's "cool" to be anti-war, but don't realize it comes
from isolationism, and they can wear long hair or Afros, cool khakis and "himemade (professionally printed)" screen printed t-shirts and hang out at Starbucks and be just as cool as the liberals (or so they think).

I don't get it either, but from what I've seen and heard from them, my assessment of them is as valid as any.

29. Paul fans, 2 simple questions:
Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 10:25 AM by blondeatlast
Why was this newsletter (which Paul has acknowledged existed) published for almost 30 years with alleged distortions and misrepresentations of his views, under HIS name on the masthead--and yet he never saw fit to call out these writers who misrepresented and distorted his views until NOW?

and maybe even worse:

Since he admitted he never edited this rag yet he allowed it to be published with his name in the masthead, yet he alleges it was filled with distortions and misrepresentations, isn't he simply TOO FOOLISH OR STUPID OR BOTH to be president?

I love the sound of crickets, personally, and I've got all the time in the world since I've got a miserable cold...

33. Some progressives have been sucked in
They hear about his stances on Iraq and the PATRIOT Act, and not bother to investigate anything else about him, and they end up getting sucked in.

Over the past six months there were plenty of Ron Paul fans on DU, although the Ron Paul love on here has waned since then.

38. They have avoided confrontation from the start.
It's always the same. Get his name out there, pretend you're not an advocate, just someone wanting to discuss the 'groundswell of grassroots support' or something like that. When confronted they offer only a minor defense of Paul, if any. It's almost as if they had been coached. Ya think?

Do a DU search on Ron Paul and read the threads. The ones who exhibit this behavior consistently are likely Ronbots.
