Dominionists and Extreme Christian Right figures caught planning destabilization of government
It's over 10 years ago, but with the US entering a recession and an out of control Executive Branch in charge of the government, it sounds like their plan is coming to fruition.

"In his banquet speech, commissioner Wysong blasted homosexuality, exclaiming, "We should blame them for every social failure in America." He received a standing ovation. American Vision president Gary DeMar called him a "statesman."

The keynote speaker was American Vision boardmember Dr. Steven Hotze, who has written that "to solve our nation's social and moral problems, our government must enforce biblical law. Hotze was, at the time, chairman of the Harris County (Houston) GOP, and remains prominent in Texas Republican politics.

In his speech, he called for destabilization of the federal government. "What we need in America today," Hotze declared, "is judges, we need mayors, we need governors who are willing to stand up to our Supreme Court, to our president and (might also be referring to abortion, but I'm willing to bet this includes other things) say 'Not in our city.' Hotze continued, "I am convinced if men of courage in positions of leadership.... would stand, they would bring about a significant constitutional crisis." Hotze concluded, in the presence of a number of candidates for state, local and federal office, "We need to get men elected to do that."

What has the Republican Party done by giving these people power?

2. I don't know - but Huckabees emergance does make this seem plausible
Still, I think for all of Bush's failings, many as they are, he hasn't gone quite as far as they would like him to towards enforcing biblical law.

And what is SF known for? Gay tigers of course. Do the math people.
As for that giant floating phallic symbol the Hindenburg, there has to be some gay connection somehow.

4. This, among other things, will be the GOP's downfall this year
they married the radical fundies willingly. Now the radical fundies' behavior gets wierder and wierder and the GOP can't control them. Many in the GOP want them gone, but it won't be very easy to do. In any event, they're all joined at the hip this year and the GOP will go down with them.

5. I have to agree wholeheartedly with this statement
"I am convinced if men of courage in positions of leadership.... would stand, they would bring about a significant constitutional crisis." Hotze concluded, in the presence of a number of candidates for state, local and federal office, "We need to get men elected to do that."
I am sure the men of Leadership that I would wish for would not be the cronies they want though..

6. Goldwater tried to warn the GOP....to no avail
John Dean points out the very deliberate republican plan to blame gays for everything in his book "Conservatives Without Conscience."
