Kucinich Won Washington State Democratic Party Straw Poll, But As With Virginia, the Party Chose Not to Announce It

Strange Bedfellows
Seattle

Oh, THAT poll
State Democratic Party Chairman Dwight Pelz said Friday he wasn't aware of any polls assessing support for presidential candidates among Democratic voters likely to attend the Feb. 9 caucuses. But after the P-I published an article reflecting that, a couple of savvy readers cried foul.

It seems that the state party itself conducted a straw poll in late 2007, soliciting responses from the thousands of people on its email list. The result was a narrow first-place finish for Dennis Kucinich.

On Monday, Pelz said that didn't quite count:

"The Kucinich people, to their credit as we acknowledge, they got people tro send in responses for Kucinich," Pelz said. "But that doesn't rise to the level of a scientific poll of Washington state caucus-goers."

2. Kucinich always wins in this area,
We're the coffee drinking, hemp-wearing, hybrid driving, vegan set that he resonates with.
I'm not any of those, BTW, except for coffee drinking (god I love the stuff.)

5. I wouldn't be caught dead wearing hemp
Have no intention of ever going vegan, and I don't drive anything because I'm too poor to own a car.

In fact, I'm a broke redneck in Alabama. And DK is my choice. :)

6. It is a medical impossibility to survive a northwest winter without...
massive, regular infusions of stoopid strong caffinated beverages.

Just remember, friends don't let friends drink Starbucks.

*Portland says hello to Seattle* :toast:

ps...never understood wasting good hemp on clothing...I inhaled

7. This poll was pretty obscure...
I live in Washington, and I never heard of it before. It certainly seems to have had a fairly small sample.

9. You have to be an active member of the state party to know about it
Not a random sample by any means, but a good sampling of worker bees.

8. Nope, it isn't a scientific poll of caucus goers
However, it represents a sizeable chunk of the worker bees that Pelz would like to have for his voter registration drive this summer.
