Did Novak Just Say What I thought He Did?
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 11:02 PM by Me.
On Abrams...did he just say something to the effect that Obama is so clean, not like your usual African Americans? There were people in the room talking and if I misheard this, apologies to all.

On Edit: It was a Faux News video that Abrams played.

6. Novak has been ruled "toast" so many times, I've lost count.
A stake through the heart is the only thing that'll do it.

But maybe he did... would like to find out.

he said what you thought he just did.

12. Here you go: Novak - Obama’s A ‘Strong’ Candidate Because He’s ‘Clean’ & ‘Not A Stereotype...'

Novak: Obama’s A ‘Strong’ Candidate Because He’s ‘Clean’ And ‘Not A Stereotype African-American’
This weekend on Bloomberg television, conservative pundit Robert Novak discussed what Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-IL) “Achilles heel” would be if Obama prevails the in Democratic primary over the coming weeks.

Novak said Obama could be threatened by “racist prejudice” in the general election. In making this statement, however, Novak inadvertently made a racist comment of his own, arguing racist prejudice is unlikely against Obama because he is “clean” and “not a stereotype African-American”:

Q: What is Obama’s potential Achilles heel?

NOVAK: I think the only potential Achilles heel is in a general election, if there is some racist prejudice. I’m not sure there is. He’s, as poor Joe Biden said, he’s clean. He isn’t a stereotype African-American. And I think he’s a very strong candidate.

Watch it:

Novak acknowledged borrowing language from “poor” Sen. Joe Biden’s (D-DE) insensitive remarks from last year. Recall, Biden said that Obama is a “clean” and “articulate” African-American. Biden was widely condemned for the comments.

In stereotyping African-Americans as “unclean,” Novak exemplified the type of “racist prejudice” that still exists.

25. "Knowing people in high places"...
He's got plenty of those. Anyone else does what he has done, and they would have been in prison for life. These people use the Justice System to silence opposition, and reward themselves.

That might be one way to tell if you misheard it. Not definitive, but a good indicator.

16. YES, I saw it too, on MSNBC, in the 'lowlights' segment
or whatever they call their 'worst person on the planet' part of the show.

Absolutely transparent, about as obvious as a baloney ring in your morning bowl of Cheerio's.

What he actually said was bad enough, but the casual disdain, contempt, and dismissal written all over his face as he said it... what a m'f'n a*hole.

Much worse than anything the prune-faced guy in the cowboy hat said, on the same network.

26. Hey, on the bright side,
the average home viewer (unless he or she is one of those p*****woods who actually spends evenings and weekends wearing a pointy bedsheet) is likely to see through the nastiness of the remark.

I don't know if very many people were paying much attention (Hissyspit put up a link to the video, up-thread, in #15?), but this *is* a clip that deserves to be re-played, as often as they hit us with repeats of the Howard Dean Microphone Moment:

http://ratchetup.typepad.com/eyes/2004/03/howard_deans_i_.html

Racism has an ugly face, and Novak's personified it.

29. Sorry, I should have clarified it a little better
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 01:27 AM by mojowork_n
I said "the average home viewer", implying that there existed, perhaps, some sort of potential for a "mass awakening" phenomenon.

(As if, all of a sudden, in towns and cities all across America, people would stand up by the tens and hundreds and nudge each other, "Hey, look, that old guy on the TV, the country club Republican in the navy blue blazer, making those casually *awful* comments, what a jack***!")

Naaaaah. That's not what I meant. I should have qualified the "home viewer" description a little better, to include "paying attention", and "having the eyes to see." The video clip is still there, waiting to be re-played, for any that do, but it probably won't qualify as a major tipping-point in race relations, or anything like that.

{Edit tracker: Oops, forget closing parentheses 2nd sentence.}

Maybe he was two sheets to the wind.

Either way, he's likely to claim he was, unless the whole thing just disappears down the memory hole.
