E-mails have circulated in recent weeks saying Obama is a Muslim or an atheist or took his oath of office on a Quran instead of a bible, none of which his true.

1. That oath on the Quran meme is hard to get rid of.

I had to explain that one several times about Rep. Ellison in Michigan. They don't give the oath on a book. The pictures that are done later are just photo ops. The Bible isn't involved at any point.

But what a great way to generate outrage for no reason.

I can't believe that in 2008 so many people are mobilized into a hateful frenzy by the fight for whose religion is the right one.

3. He's a member of a United Church of Christ in Chicago

Its a mainstream protestant denomination which ordains women and is welcoming to gays. That particular congregation is on the far south side (95th st) and has a mostly African American congregation with a very dynamic and well known pastor. I belonged to that denomination when I was in Chicago (though not that particular church) and I once went to that church for Christmas services (lasted 3 hours!). Its called Trinity UCC.
