I hadn't made any contributions until this point, but after seeing his performance at the debate last night, I knew what I had to do.

There is only one thing Edwards needs right now to get his message out, and that is money. He's out there hammering away for us. We need to support him where it really counts.

1. I just learned from the following thread....
that the matching funds won't happen if we contribute through ActBlue.

I want to make sure others here know that, too.

24. Did you notice on the ActBlue page who was overwhelmingly ahead in fundraising?
If what you say is true (and I have no doubt it is), that's $4.4 Million dollars the Edwards campaign could sure use right now.

Once the sour grapes digest I'll probably cough up some funds.

7. After reading your post, I did the same thing through PayPal.
I have been stewing for months at the lack of coverage of the Edwards campaign and am now 100% convinced that the Media and Big Business are controlling this whole campaign and have decided to keep him out of the headlines.

I wish I could give a lot more but Social Security only goes so far.

His message is the only one that gives me hope that we can save this country for the next generation.

8. I think donating to any candidate, especially at the national level
is very naive.

I *might* donate to Kucinich, but not only can I not afford it, my pathetic contribution wouldn't matter, anyway.

The way I look at it, I support Edwards, and I will vote for any Dem nominee, but none of them care enough about me, ultimately, for me to give them my hard-earned, desperately needed money.

11. If you can't give money,
how about giving of your time? You can volunteer for the candidate of your choice, IF you want it bad enough.

18. I don't really want to harass my neighbors and try to convince them I'm right
I hate people doing that to me, so I have no desire to do that. If people can't be bothered enough to inform themselves and go to the polls, they shouldn't be voting.

Most people are stupid, and we'll get another stupid administration and stupid Congress.

Although of course a Dem would be marginally better than a Republican, especially in court appointments.

22. Lucy, if you don't have the courage of your own convictions
and aren't interested enough in creating change by actions, what about politics has picqued your interest enough to register at a site like this that is all about activisim and educating the masses? I'm just asking because it confuses me.

For me, politics is my religion and this is my house of worship where I can find a kindred spirt and some information, guidance, and food for thought which encourages me to THINK and then ACT on my beliefs.

Politics is not a spectators sport (at least not how WE do it) and if you don't like fish, you don't order the tuna.

36. None of the candidates are good enough to deserve my time
Except Kucinich, who has no chance, especially here in Texas.

I prefer to spend my "politics" time doing local projects like working with at-risk youth, getting more involved in local politics, etc.

:)

37. Reading this thread ...
... reminds me of the way that rich evangelical preachers can always con
the last few dollars from gullible believers ... "I've given $x00 even
though I really can't afford it" ... "I knew what I had to do" ...

In my list of "things to do" you will not find "donating money to a
well-paid politician" anywhere higher than "wiping my arse on $20 notes"
or "supporting the drug habits of celebrities".

I give to charities, not expense accounts.

Note that this isn't specifically aimed at Edwards - the same applies to
all of the "front-runners" of whichever party you care to name.

Palast was right: this is truly the best democracy money can buy.

38. You're right. It's silly of us to donate to the candidate the most closely represents our interests
We should just sit by and let big money donors and corrupt politicians hold complete sway over our government.

Thank you, for being the clear voice of sanity in this thread of naive fools. :sarcasm:

45. I think that donating is a good thing...
though I haven't donated to any candidates in the primaries yet. (I usually wait until a dem is chosen and donate for the real election.)

Be prepared for them to sell your name to a bazillion organizations, though. Lots of mail asking for money from many political organizations. And some of them are conservative ones. It's whacked! (And I get lots of phone calls from surveyors, as well.) Once your name is on their books, be prepared for a deluge.

I actually prefer to campaign locally. It feels much more fulfilling than sending in a check.

47. It's your money, do what you want with it.
I was just observing that the comments & actions shown on this subject
reflect the "blind faith" seen in the TV preacher business ...

> We should just sit by and let big money donors and corrupt politicians
> hold complete sway over our government.

... especially when people apparently think that their $x donation is
somehow going to carry more weight than the corporate $xxxxx bribes
(oops, "donations") that *DO* hold complete sway over the government
whether you like it or not.

> Thank you, for being the clear voice of sanity in this thread of
> naive fools.

Like I said, it's your money so spend it on whatever you want: I wasn't
calling anyone a fool, I was just commenting on the similarities between
two well-established businesses of separating optimists from their cash.

40. I don't donate money lightly nor easily
My time ... well that is another thing altogether, but not money. My money is usually reserved to support my family and, when possible, occassionally give them something that they want just because they want it ... but only after I give them what they need (even if they don't notice that so much all the time). Giving money is a commitment for me that usually follows with the gift of time and effort because I believe that my effort can make a difference.

Your mileage may vary. But don't slam those of us that DO reach deep once every 4 years.

As far as the Televangalist thing ... you might be right ... because for me, leaving behind a better country has become more of a religious experience for me only my house of worship is bordered by oceans and not big screens.

Just got out of the Hospital, 10 days with pneumonia, then 10 days at home.

Just finished making 2 mtg payments in 2 weeks, my 10 yr olds b-day, then christmas...oh, 450 for a clutch in my car (90 CRX)

If I had a UNION job, I'd have had short term disability, yes I COULD pay for it, but just cant afford it.

Lost my star too, cant do a danged thing about that either...sigh.
We'll get back into the black, just will take awhile.
