53. ME/Pakistan/OBL
General question: how aggressive should you be to get OBL

Obama-"everything in our power"..."work with Pakistan" On nuclear proliferation--"rebuild nuclear non proliferation"

Edwards-"go get him"...long term, nuclear proliferation...adhoc policy not working

Richardson-"use diplomacy first" "seek not to inflame ME" "ask Mushareff to stop aside" "We have the leverage to do that" "actionable intelligence=take action"

Clinton-"we have to be very conscious of all the consequences" "Did not make the committment to catch OBL, "actionable inteligence=given very through evaluation

40. I prefer this format to the other one. This needs to be duplicated with the
candidates not included in this one. Rather than have so many as with this cycle, need to have a few of them at a time over a period of time. One on one with each other in a conversation with followups.

Excellent format.

123. OK, thanks
Wiki:

Musharraf formally appointed himself President on June 20, 2001.

On May 12, 2000, the Supreme Court ordered Musharraf to hold national elections by October 12, 2002;
elections for local governments took place in 2001.

In an attempt to legitimize his presidency and assure its continuance after the approaching restoration of democracy, he held a referendum on April 30, 2002 to extend his term to five years after the October elections. However, the referendum was ... heavily rigged.

Musharraf went on TV and apologized to the nation for "irregularities" in the referendum.

...
And alot more anti-democratic garbage by Musharraf.

On hopeful point I saw:

On September 17, 2005, Musharraf made a historic speech before a broad based audience of Jewish leadership, sponsored by the Council for World Jewry, in New York City. In the speech, he denounced terrorism and opened the door to relationships between Pakistan and Israel, as well as between the Muslim world and Jews worldwide. He was widely criticized by Middle Eastern Arab leaders and Muslim clerics, but was met with some praise among Jewish leadership.

63. I don't care for Richardson's insistence on asking
Musharraf to step aside. That's not something to telegraph, even if it were to be done diplomatically. Trading raised (beyond what's already nuts) tensions for some small personal gain in the polls doesn't strike me as particularly smart.

73. I'm guessing it's his attempt to sound strong
but it has such a chance to further inflame tensions there... I think it's irresponsible, myself.

Musharraf's a creep. But he's the creep walking a razor's edge now. I think we need to get him off the edge first, and then get him gone. The way to do that is to make sure the Pakistani people have a free and fair election, I think.

I'm just very distrustful of what seems to me to be a "cowboy" answer. Too much of that already has caused many of the problems we're dealing with now, you know?

70. Hillary blew them all away on Osama / Pakistan
They were all good, but Hillary showed a depth of understanding and clarity of approach that was far more comprehensive and concise.

And she managed to put it clearly on Bush at the end. Obama did that also.

77. I think she did well, too
But I also think Obama and Edwards did, as well. (Edwards could do with learning to be more concise. I think maybe that's an occupational hazard, though. He said what he wanted to say more than once and I found myself drifting.)

75. For once, Edwards is the NON-phony -
he just said PACK-i-stan, rather than the "PAHK-i-stahn" bullshit I've heard from the others (and Charlie Gibson.)

This is a very recently modern American error: taking all foreign words with "a" in them and saying "ah" -- I guess people feel it makes them sound more exotic and/or "learned." It's so wrong!

have always said it with short-"a"s. I think a Pakistani will say it with short-"a"s as well. Their short-"a"s might not be as short as ours, but they still have them.

The "ah" sound is more common (as a language sound) than our "a" in "cat" (American English).

and coming off like a spoiled child there for a minute. isn't she like 60 years old or something, I cant imagine my mother responding like that and yelling at the host. Do we really want that as the representation for our country when we keep talking about change and how we are viewed?

Edited on Sat Jan-05-08 09:33 PM by smalll
the collar of his suit keeps standing up away from his shirt at the back of his neck. That always looks terrible on everyone.

They ALL look tired. I don't know how they do it. If I was up on that stage with them after Iowa and now 3 days till the NH primary - I'd have great big bags under my eyes, droopy eyelids, a little cross-eyed. Hell, I'm like that if I go for more than a couple of days with less than 8 hours sleep!
