John McCain has doubled his support since mid-December and leads Mitt Romney, 35 percent to 29 percent, according to a Concord Monitor/Research 2000 post-Iowa survey of likely Republican primary voters in New Hampshire. Mike Huckabee was the choice of 13 percent of those surveyed, followed by Rudy Giuliani at 8 percent, Ron Paul at 7 percent and Fred Thompson at 3 percent.

This looks like it. McCain wins big.

Obama fans should write threads and post comments on the monitor blog about McCain's crazy statements on 100-year war in Iraq, to help keep the Indies in the Dem column!!

1. Hillary may still win NH -- 4 polls today have her ahead or tied with Obama
Poll: McCain Up Six; Clinton-Obama Tied

ABC News' Rick Klein Reports: The latest WMUR/University of New Hampshire tracking poll has John McCain opening up a six-point lead over Mitt Romney, 33-27. In their last poll, taken Dec. 27-30, McCain and Romney were tied at 29.

The sample size is small, the margin of error large (five), but this is the first post-Iowa snapshot we have of the race, and it raises the stakes for Romney. The Romney campaign is furiously spinning the prospect of a second-place finish as a win, but as we note today he's spending more money than all of his rivals COMBINED in New Hampshire, just like he did in Iowa, where he only took the silver. The poll also has Rudy Giuliani in third at 14, Mike Huckabee fourth with 11, and Ron Paul in fifth with 9. (Fred Thompson is tied with with Duncan Hunter at 1 -- wow.)

Among the Democrats, it's Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama tied at 33. If you're with the Clinton campaign, this is a mixed message -- it is tight tight tight in the state she needs to regain momentum, but at least she hasn't cratered in the wake of Iowa.

These numbers are roughly the same as they were in the last poll, which it at 34-30 Clinton over Obama. In the new numbers, John Edwards is running third at 20 percent -- if that holds, he's going to have trouble moving on from New Hampshire. Bill Richardson is in a distant fourth at 4 percent, just above Dennis Kucinich's 2 percent.

3. And if she wins the nomination, she'll never win the presidency.
She'll never get the independent vote. I really wish some of you would wake up and see that. It's painfully obvious what a polarizing character she is. Enough to make me stay home and not vote. There's no way I'll vote republican, but I can't and won't vote for her either.

2. He won in 2000, and didn't come close to getting the nom. 2008 will be the same
His numbers aren't very good anywhere else, and everyone expects him to win NH.

4. I think John would have won SC if it hadn't been for the dirty
push polling about having an illigitimate black child. Shrub wasn't that popular in that State back then.

5. Maybe, but right now he is in a three way split decision for 3rd place in SC

Huckabee averages @ 26%, Romney @ 20%, Thompson, 9iu11iani and McCain @13%.
Pretty far from a win, I don't see his expected NH win to mean much down there.

6. John did something else in SC last time. He dissed the fundies.
He ridiculed Shrub for pandering at Bob Jones U, amd he also dissed Dobson, Falwell and Robertson. The fundies don't forget stuff like that, and I doubt he'll gain much more than the current 13%. In fact, I'm surprised he has that much.
