'NYT' Sunday Preview: David Frum Is 'Terrified' GOP Is Heading for 'Defeat'
NEW YORK David Frum, the conservative writer and former Bush White House speechwriter -- currently working for Rudy Giuliani -- tells The New York Times Magazine this coming Sunday, "What I am terrified of is that the Republican Party is heading into a period of political defeat....I am terrified that we can lose the election in 2008. We can lose in 2012, and it will take us half a dozen years to do the rethinking we need to you."

He also tells Deborah Solomon, "What I am saying is that there is exhaustion, intellectual exhaustion on the part of Republicans and conservatives."

Frum has a new book, "Comeback: Conservatism That Can Win Again." His candidate, however, got only 4% of the vote in Iowa. He says he made a New Year's resolution to "not to be pessmistic" but, asked if this applied to the state of the GOP, he added, "I didn't say I always keep my resolutions."

The Magazine features a cover story on the danger of voting-machine irregularities.

6. "there is exhaustion, intellectual exhaustion on the part of Republicans and conservatives"
hey, it must be hard work keeping track of all those lies and somehow also dodging reality. Add in how much work it is to ignore the scandals in your own party - from sex scandals to money scandals to old fashioned incompetence - and you've got a full time job there!

8. He can thank
the failed policies of BushCo for that. People are sick of it and hopefully 2008 will show everyone just how sick of it we all are.

Be afraid Mr. Frum. Be very afraid. :scared:

10. It's the Republicans fault
by picking a light weight narcissus jackass like Bush. You're tied to his policies now and Bush never gave a damn about the republican party. Try thinking a little longer next time.

12. Bad news, David
The last seven years have demonstrated to the people that the party that hates government can't, you know, govern. While this may not be much of a concern in ordinary times, it sure as shit matters when (for example) a city gets scrubbed off the map by a hurricane.

16. When a political party is given the chance to govern
they better know how to govern. The party of "less government" was, after all is said and done, the party that never had a clue about how to govern. All their lame attacks on bureaucracy were a smoke screen for the fact that they had no idea how Federal and State agencies were supposed to operate. Every single cabinet and regulatory agency was used purely political gain.
The new leadership about to take back our country from the pretenders had better be warned. They are elected to be our temp help, that is all. They are expected to conduct the peoples business according to constitutional principles without allowing personal greed to interfere in any decisions.
If the new dems follow suit they will essentially eliminate the fright wing party from our collective reality.
