WH: Bush stayed up past his usual bedtime… to wait for the results to be announced

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/01/bush-stays-up-p.html

<snip>

"The President watched the returns last night. He stayed up past his usual bedtime… to wait for the results to be announced," White House spokesman Tony Fratto said. "The president said that these races are great tests. You win some and you lose some, and the question is how you do in the long run."

Fratto flatly denied that the "change" theme in many of the 2008 contenders' campaigns stems from the last seven years of the Bush presidency.

"It's good to see change in this job and the way we do it. Especially if you put into context in some of the troubled transitions we see in other countries, we shouldn't take it for granted," Fratto said. "The way we do it we have very competitive, hardly fought election campaigns and graceful peaceful transfers of power that speak well for this country."

11. Fratto is stretching to come up with some Repuke spin
Yes, oh well certainly we mustn't take these transitions for granted. Indeed, when we look at the tumult surrounding such things in other places...Now what was that about change? I hardly recall.

14. Oooh, I HAVE to re-post this just for you:
Re: Did Bush really read The Stranger?

Scene: The royal bedroom of the White House. It's late at night and Laura's in the kitchen with a half-empty bottle of gin in front of her. Her hair is askew and she seems to be losing an argument with her sock. Meanwhile, in the Royal bedroom, George reclines on the bed in his cowboy hat, Superman boxers and boots. Condi's in a candy-pink peignior and matching feather mules on her feet. She sits on a padded red-velvet chair next to George and crosses her legs becomingly.

With a small wicked grin, she says, "We're going to do a little something different tonight, Sugarbum."

George: Well, don't leave me hangin' princess. Bring it on!

Condi (pulling out "The Stranger"): Let's pretend I'm your high school teacher and you're in detention. And I'll read you a naughty book.

George: This ourghta be good. What'd I do now?

Condi: You stole money from the school funds. Okay, chapter one: 'Mother died today. Or maybe yesterday; I can't be sure'. (voice softens and gets all breathy)

George: Say that again. It gets me all hot.
