The sheeple want a warm fuzzy candidate who will make them feel good about themselves
I was listening on the radio, and someone mentioned a recent survey showing that something like 70-75% of Americans were satisfied with their own personal lives. Despite the fact that we're in a recession, facing skyrocketing energy prices, runaway inflation, and are still losing American troops in an illegal occupation, most Americans are just fat, dumb, and happy. These people have no clue that they are just a paycheck or two away from being in real jeopardy. They have no idea just how tenuous their existence really is, that their jobs could be snuffed out in an instant. We're already seeing unemployment on the rise, and those are just the numbers that the government officially releases. This past retail season was a complete disaster.

But here come the happy-go-lucky rethugs like Huckabee, painting a rosy picture, telling Americans that everything is just peachy keen. It worked for Reagan in the 80s, he was able to con people into thinking that their lives were actually better than they were.

People don't want to hear the cold hard truth. It makes them uncomfortable to realize just how easily their lives could be turned upside down. It's up to us to try and open their eyes.

1. I would like to put Saint Ronny in the grave once and for all..
I really would. What the fuck was so great about his lies? Where did it get ultimately get us? I think you're right though, as much as Americans proclaim to want an honest President, they're still drawn to people like the Huckster.

2. Their fascination with his corpse really is troubling, isn't it?
Why didn't they just embalm him, and put him on display like the Russians did with Lenin? I honestly think that if it were legally possible, they would still vote for him, prop up his corpse in the Oval Office, and then let the VP do all the real work.

3. I wonder ? ...
"a recent survey showing that something like 70-75% of Americans were satisfied with their own personal lives"

Some of these people must be lying to themselves.

5. Your right - we should go around making people miserable.
Then they'll see how happy they could be.

7. I'm sorry if the truth is more depressing than the lies they're swallowing
Do you prefer the head-in-the-sand approach, waving the American flag, going along with the Rethug line that everything is going to be a-okay?

9. No but I think there is something between the Politics of Despair
and being a Rethug.

6. We need to continue to fight the good fight!
That is why I will continue my support for JRE, to me he is our only hope for real change! He remains the peoples president, not the corporate president.

8. It's like they need two presidents: one to act as some sort of
emotional cheerleader or father-figure, and another to do the real work of fixing the messes the GOP has got us into.

I've never been much into idolizing people, so I don't need a spiritual and emotional cheerleader, guide, father figure, or pope or anything like that.

10. Open their eyes? Step one: ...
Don't call them sheeple, or morans, or thugs, or loozers. It tends to piss people off.

Life IS good. Most people have jobs, many have health insurance. Heck, most of the people who go to Iraq/Afghanistan come back intact.

Now, how would a Democratic super-majority legislature and a Democratic executive improve things? How will MY life be better if we stop pouring money down the mideast war rat-hole? How will MY life be better if everyone has access to health care? How will MY job be more secure? How will I move from "fat and dumb" to "slim and smart"?

I can talk to some of those issues, not all, and not as well as I should. I'm still trying to connect the dots that I thought would get connected after the Nov 06 victory.

As for Huckabee, I hope he wins the nomination. For some reason, I think he's easier to beat than Romney.

:hi:
