Senator Edwards is kinda giving the speech of his life right now.
Edited on Thu Jan-03-08 10:31 PM by WilliamPitt
His Iowa speech was just live.

"We are better than this."

Sounding, via his Southern patois, like, "We are better 'n this."

:)

Sounded damned good.

Yeah, we got us some kick-ass candidates this year.

:toast:

P.S. Get it on YouTube tomorrow.

My dream team-- Edwards/Biden 2008?
The concern I have with Obama is, he's LieBerman's protege',
After all, Obama didn't show up to vote for, or against,'the Kyl-Lieberman amendment'
(he just hid out) -- the amendment passed without him...

15. Love "the torch has passed" lines
He used that phrase twice. That was always my favorite part of JFK's inaugural address.

"Let the word go forth from this time and place. . .to friend and foe alike. . . that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans. . . born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage. . .and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today. . .at home and around the world."

28. Good point...

many people are way too robotic in repeating the points put across by the media. While Chris Matthews may or may not have had a valid point about Edward's speech, I find it totally disgusting that the corporate media is virtually ignoring much of his message against corporate greed. Instead, CNN prefers to have feel-good interviews with Clinton, complete with light-hearted humor about her father and the Sopranos. :puke:

43. The mindless regurgitation of undigested Media Talking Points is what's wrong.
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 04:15 PM by tom_paine
You are just the carrier of the "disease".

How about telling us, in your own words, why you didn't like his speech.

Or didn't you know until Chris Matthews told you?

I usually try not to get in the middle of candidate flame-fests, but damnit, Will is right. While you have every right to feel as you do, what is wrong (as I see it and think Will does, too, though I cannot speak for him) is the fact that ALL of us, not just you, not just me, ALL of us, have become so brain-atrophied from the Bushie Propaganda Machine and their MSM toadies of yes/no, 1/0, "it's easier to just relax and regurgitate rather than think for ourselves because thinking sucks", that we now mostly just absorb and regurgitate, rather than find our way ourselves.

It is as much a part of our surroundings these days, as the air we breathe, and no one, NO ONE is immune because like all good advertising and marketing, it burrows into the subconscious so that it cannot be consciously defended against.

Now, I couldn't help but notice your signature line of "Say It Fast." That line of thinking also plays right into the hands of the Bush Totalitarians. They have a multi-billion dollar, multi-faceted propaganda machine designed to do just that. Churn out quick quips and Orwellian linguistic redefinitions that take so long to unpack that our ADD society's eyes glaze over.

It's a brilliant strategy, evil in a way only Goebbels could truly appreciate. Not that I am accusing you of being evil, just of following the programming of "say it fast" that unwittingly corrodes thinking and aids the Bushies, whether you like it or not.

Anyway, I have already said too much by the "say it fast" principle, which means you have WON!

Finally, I have dealt with so many "say it fasters" that your response is quite predictable. A short, declarative smear designed to put me on the defensive. Such smears are designed to fully discredit the "foe" by using the most brevity to completely discredit EVERYTHING someone says in the fewest possible words.

Smears that are variants of

You think you're better than me?
You're just a crazy moonbat.
You're so full of yourself.

See I thought I'd help you out to "Say It Fast."

Here's something you should read, and if you truly are on our same side, the side of Liberty against Bushie Totalitarianism, then you will put aside your ego and think about what have have said.

If not, I suppose a short declarative smear will be my reward for trying to make you realize that we are on the same side at the end of the day, and who the enemy is...the Bushies. Please feel free to use my templates, for your "say it fast" return fire.

If you wish to further examine my hypothesis, let me redirect you to Professor Phil Agre, who knows and understands this shit better than I could ever hope to.

http://home.att.net/~hugh2you/jargon1.txt

Peace. We are on the same side. I am being hard on you because I despise the short, delcarative, red-herring smear, no matter who is using it. Put your ego aside and please hear what I have to say.

Oh, and one last thing. I am better than no one. I have talents in some areas, in others I am stupid, like everyone else.

I listened to the speech later and it bothered me - the fact that - like bush during the 2000 recounts - he declared himself a winner. My own opinion. I have no reason to assume I was the only person in the universe forming an original opinion on that. Maybe the other poster did too.
The fanaticism for this candidate on this board surpassed anything that ever happened in 2004. The way you treat dissent to your dogma approaches that other site.

"Stumble Upon" things recommended by like-minded people, indeed.

I also liked this one:

The way you treat dissent to your dogma approaches that other site.

What other site would that be?

Actually, I have mostly stayed out of the campaign flame-fests, and have stuck up for both Obama and Sen. Clinton when such bullshit has been used against them, which is aboutthe only time I jump into these things.

Oh, occasionally I K & R an Edwards thread, and sometimes post "Right on!". which I am sure invalidates anything I have to say forever in the future.

I am assumingthat memes are transmitted like viruses. It also goes without sayingthere are exceptions to every generalization.

Oh, nevermind, perhaps you would be more comfortable if I spouted some flame-wars gibberish. Oh, and don't bother reading the Phil Agre page I linked to, it's just more dogmatic orthodoxy.
