What the Hell is happening to Kenya? Is it becoming another Rwanda?

NAIROBI, Kenya (CNN) -- Gangs of young men armed with machetes are roaming the streets in Kenya as post-election violence threatens to engulf the country. Horrific attacks are being reported, including the torching of a church where people who had sought refuge were burned alive.

Much of the violence is between supporters of Kibaki from the majority Kikuyu tribe and backers of opposition leader Raila Odinga, who is from the Luo tribe.

The ethnic violence, previously rare in Kenya, is reminiscent of the strife that led to the Rwanda genocide.

6. Been following this in the Times and on BBC, and...

it's a mess that a lot seem to have foreseen, although didn't so much about.

15 minutes after the election results were annouced all hell broke loose, which leads me to think it was pretty well orgaqnized long before the election. Seemd like a sure thing Kibaki was going to steal it, and they were ready.

It's all about tribal warfare now, making the Sunni/Shiite stuff look like a party. I wish I had some idea what to do, but I don't and probably couldn't do it anyway. So, all I can do is shed a tear for what was just a month ago the shining star of African peace and democracy.

Washington, so far, hasn't bothered to even shed a tear and seems to not have the foggiest idea what's going on there. If they were involved at all in the election, whatever they were doing screwed up. As has everything else they've been doing.
