The Shock Doctrine: The Salvador Option WARNING GRAPHIC PHOTOS!
Edited on Tue Jan-01-08 07:03 PM by Joanne98

In the early days of the occupation, the Green Zone had played host to ecomonic shock therapists from Poland and Russia; now it became a magnet for a different breed of shock therapists, those specializing in the darker arts of suppressing resistance movements. The private security companies padded their ranks with veterans of the dirty wars in Colombia, South Africa and Nepal. According to journalist Jeremy Scahill, Blackwater and other private security firms hired more than seven hundred Chilean troops-many of them special forces operators-for Iraq deployment, some of whom had trained under Pinochet.

One of the highest ranking shock specialists was the US commander James Steele, who arrived in Iraq in May 2003. Steele had been a key figure in Central America's right-wing crusades, where he had served as chief adviser to several Salvadoran army battalions accused of being death squads. More recently, he had been a vice president at Enron and had orginally gone to Iraq as an energy consultant, but when the resistance rose up, he switched back to his old persona, becoming Bremer's chief security advisor. Steel was eventually directed to bring to Iraq what unnamed sources at the Pentagon were chilling calling "the Salvador option"

1. You should probably put a warning in your thread title...

The third shock that includes torture and death didn't work if the population didn't see the bodies. So they made sure bodies were laying around when people went to work in the morning. They tortured people in neighborhood houses so people could hear them scream. All the bodies in Iraq that started showing up... 50 bodies..20 bodies with their heads cut off... bodies with holes drilled into their heads.. bodies floating in the river. All that was probably Dick Steele and his special killers from the dirty wars. In other words, the showing of bodies, is a tactic. Thanx for asking me to explain!

2. Thanks for posting. I didn't know about this Steele character - very
interesting. I thought I was somewhat well informed about what was going on in Iraq but I had no idea about this. Thanks again.

13. Dennis Kucinich speaks the truth too much, he needs to go away.
I am one of the millions of dumbed down Americans and we don't like to see or hear the truth. If we actually admit to whats happening, we would have to inconvenience ourselves in our daily lives to help others...thats not the American way. Why do they allow an honest, truth telling person to be an american politician, they cant do anything for the elites agenda.

I don't think it shuld drop like a rock.

Just more evidence that much of the horror in Iraq is being perpetrated by the Bush Crime Family.

edit> Oh, and a rec, too. This should be on the "greatest" page.

10. Can't understand why I'm only the second recommend vote.
Here's my "kick", as well.

Did you ever read the magnificent Billmon back in the glorious days of his "Whiskey Bar" blog? He called the "Salvadoran Option" out years ago.

I cannot thank you enough for carrying this information forward.
