What Is Probably in the Missing CIA Tapes.
by Naomi Wolf.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/naomi-wolf/what-is-probably-in-the-m_b_76708.html

'To judge from firsthand documents obtained by the ACLU through a FOIA lawsuit, we can guess what is probably on the missing CIA interrogation tapes -- as well as understand why those implicated are spinning so hard to pretend the tapes do not document a series of evident crimes.'

'What we are likely to see if the tapes documenting the interrogation of Abu Zubaydah and Abd Al-Rahim Al-Nashiri are ever recovered is that the "confessions" of the prisoners upon which the White House has built its entire case for subverting the Constitution and suspending civil liberties in this country was obtained through methods such as electrocution, beating to the point of organ failure, hanging prisoners from the wrists from a ceiling, suffocation, and threats against family members ("I am going to find your mother and I am going to fuck her" is one direct quote from a US interrogator).'

'In other words, if we could witness the drama of manufacturing by torture the many violently coerced "confessions" upon which the whole house of cards of this White House and its hyped "war on terror" rests, it would likely cause us to reopen every investigation, including the most serious ones...'

3. Reckick!
I wonder how much anyone cares about the fact that we, as a nation, practice torture? I just don't know anymore who the American people are...

6. She's missing something
Gerald Posner summarized a good-cop/bad-cop routine that was almost certainly done before any torture, in which Zubaydeh stated that members of the Saudi Royal family were informed by Al Qaeda of the date of the 9/11 attacks, though not the operational details.

8. Could Be Anything On The Tapes
But one thing we know is that we'll never know exactly was on them.

Making me think of, let's say your neighbor takes his wife out in a boat and she accidentally drowns.

The man is distraught, but after a check for life insurance comes through, and you watch the man drive off with his secretary in a brand new Coupe de Ville.

You know now that the man had something to do with his wife's death, but you'll never be able to prove it.

You'll never be able to wipe that sick murdering smile offa his face.

Same with bush.

Looks like he's going to get away with every single murderous thing he's pulled.

Oh well.

At least we haven't been attacked again.

PHEW!

12. Obviously, the torture has kept us safe.
:eyes: I pity people who are so cowardly they would sacrifice the ideals and reputation of this country as a result of fear-mongering by a cowardly administration, "led" by an AWOL, drunken, idiot cheerleader. Only chickenhawk, draft-dodging cowards like Cheney and AWOL Bush fail to understand the values of abiding by international agreements against torture. The Army has stated that waterboarding or any form of torture is illegal in the Army, publicly defying the coward "leaders."

We were safe for 220 plus years without torture until Bush and his incompetent administration was installed by the USSC.

Fools and cowards believe the lies. Are you one of them?

10. The death of the Saudi Princes
Edited on Mon Dec-31-07 03:42 PM by noise
and the Pakistani AF Chief may not be related to Zubaydah. He may not have said a single word about these contacts. He may have known nothing of value. Instead this may have been a cover story generated to suggest Zubaydah was an al Qaeda bigshot.

1) I don't trust Posner.

2) I don't trust Posner's anonymous souces (executive branch and CIA official).

3) Why would Zubaydah have direct access to such contacts? It comes across as highly implausible.

4) Other sources (FBI's Dan Coleman) indicate that Zubaydah's importance was overstated and he may have been mentally unstable.

11. So how come the guys Zubaydeh mentioned died young shortly thereafter?
Those are documented facts. According to Posner, he had the right cell phone numbers. Even a mentally unstable guy knows who to call to get his ass out of a sling. Later torture probably did a Jose Padilla number on him, though.

I pray this country returns to something close to normalcy once Bush`s sorry ass is sent back to the ranch.

9. K&R, this is exactly the point that should be stressed about the interrogation....

the softball news media will make it look like it is all about the questionable techniques used to get at the truth. IN FACT, the torture techniques were used to fabricate confessional lies that were then used by the Administration for its own agenda. Once again the true crimes of this Administration are being covered up.
