Is America ready for change?
With Ron Paul getting more support than in any of his previous campaigns, and even though he will not get a large percentage of the vote, I think it is indicative of the people's desire for change. I don't think it would be wise to ignore the winds of change. The candidates that do not see this change coming will be sitting at home by March of this year.

For example, Chris Dodd, a very capable and competent politician moved to Iowa and put his kids in school there. However, he acts like a "Senator". He talks like a "Senator". Which is all fine and good but he doesn't understand the ground that is moving under his feet.

And it is not just Ron Paul people, it is the John Edwards supporters also. I think we may see a lot of surprised "experts" and former candidates after the next couple of weeks? We shall see...

1. I think that most of America desperately wants change, but I doubt if we'll
get anything truly significant. While any change from repug rule will be welcomed, until big money no longer factors so significantly in American politics the kind of change most of us crave won't be forthcoming.

2. They've wanted a "change" for a long time now, but aren't about to bite the hand that feeds them
I mean, come on...just look at the last several yrs! Which means they apparently don't want real change badly enough if it might inconvenience them. So the Establishment will of course put up a right leaning dem as to put a little friendlier face on the same old/same old.

3. I think that is what spurred the '94 Republican landslide
Republicans were given a fair chance. They were given over a decade to effect change. Not only did they not do so but entrenched themselves even further in corruption and arrogance. People now are at the point of just throwing up their hands in despair. It is becoming more obvious by the day that Change can never occur as long as it is the same people running over and over again. Washington is steeped in Arrogance and Corruption, it comes with the territory..That is why I expect the upcoming elections to have the lowest turnout in America's history. People are just sick and tired of being jerked around..Democrats have proved they will do nothing. There are numerous parliamentary procedures they could have used to block many things that have gone on but did they use any? When you come into office saying Accountability is "Off the Table" your hands are pretty much tied right from the beginning..Why even bother?

4. I agree with all of the above
And I wonder are we at our most aware just at a crucial time, when we need to be because of the rise of fundamentalism, along with corporate power. I think America and Europe are still the leaders are far as people power, but there are obstacles.

6. What's happened since 2000 has been ongoing for quite some time
It's just that more people are on to it now that it's so blatant. The perps have introduced totalitarianism incrementally - over the past three decades especially - with little or no backlash from a blissfully ignorant public. So with 9/11 on their side, it was time to break from the drip-drip-drip pattern of tip-toe totalitarianism, and usher in major advances for the police state. That was the sole purpose of placing Bush/Cheney into power, which, pretty much the Establishment entire was 110% behind when the coup occurred.

5. the "powers that be" are not about to give the power to the people
the "ron paul" and "dennis kucinich" (my fav) bubbles are nothing but show.

Nothing will change. We are too far gone. Wars will continue, the rich will continue to rule the country and the world, and we will falsely believe that "we the people" matter. We are nothing but consumers and labor for the Machine. Once we are charged up and used up, we will be cast aside for the next new market and new labor pool.
