USS Richard B. Cheney CVN-79
The Department of the Defense released today that the second of the new Ford class carriers will be named after the current Vice President and former Secretary of Defense Richard B. Cheney.

The crew who will man this ship will fondly call it …

‘The Big Dick!’

4. Why don't we have a ship called the Benedict Arnold?
I mean, if we're naming boats after traitors and all, right?

12. Since ships are referred to as "she" ....
... perhaps the nickname would be "The Big D____ ... no, no, no, no, I won't say it. :hide:

Maybe they should just name it after Mary Cheney, instead.

13. Why do they need new ones?
The current aircraft carriers are by far the most advanced in the world. Why spend billions to make new ones?

Look at the bright side though, pretty soon you will be able to land your B-52's on the carrier.

14. First of all it is a joke. As far as I know it will not be call the Cheney.

Aircraft Carriers are nothing more than big machines and machines get old and wear out over time. The older a ship gets the harder it is to maintain it. I know I served in the Navy for six years on two different warships. Smaller ships usually last 20 or so years with upkeep, carriers last longer but they do break down and wear out.

16. Ask Trent Lott, since most of these ships are contracted to MS...
he's always fighting for new ships...:(

18. Carriers are made in Newport News, VA....all of them...
MS builds destroyers and other ships not carriers.

19. Although I agree with you to a certain degree....
I think you may have had a somewhat fantastical vision of the United States and its dealings overseas.

There never has been a virtuous American past when it comes to US foreign policy.

21. Good Lord
A Ford class carrier named after Cheney? That'd be like naming a Yugo after Scooby Doo. No, actually, it wouldn't be like that at all.
