Surest way to lose seats - hit people in their pockets
We now hear that because Congress - meaning the Democrats - took so long to adjust the Alternative Minimum Tax - that refunds would be delayed for the ones who file early.

The one who file early are the ones who need them the most. The ones who do not have to wait for their 1099 from their brokerage houses, or from their lenders. Who just put their income and taxes withheld and file.

Yes, I know. The ATM needs to be permanently fixed to adjust for inflation so why don't they do this? I am pretty sure that the Republicans would have gone along on this one.

1. I haven't heard for sure how much of a delay, but I'm guessing
4-6 weeks. That means 4-6 weeks from Jan. 1st! Both my husband & I worked for 40+ years, and NONE of the companies we worked for provided us with our W2 until the end of Jan. at the earliest! The other important point is this delay ONLY APPLIES to people claiming any of five popular credits related to AMT calculations.

VERY VERY FEW filers who earn enough to be affected by the AMT file early!

2. It's only delayed if you're affected by the AMT.
That's my understanding, anyway. If you itemize and you're affected by the AMT, then you need to wait for new forms.

6. Thanks, was not aware of this
Bush used his "bully pulpit" as if it was going to hurt everyone and our side... was quiet.

3. Refunds are scams
Same money could have been spent or invested in the prior year with superior results.

Its a fairly painless epiphany so why large numbers of people would be disappointed is beyond me.

4. Further evidence of just how entrenched in the DC Bubble
and totally out of touch they have been.

5. I heard in one report it will only effect the refunds of people
effected by the AMT. Regular filers won't be inconveniced...
