How come it is always the good guys?
Yitzak Rabin, Bhutto, Kennedy's, Martin Luther King, Ghandi, Allende.....what do all these leaders have in common? They were all assassinated for their views. They were all assassinated for their passion, their goals to make the world, and their state/nation a better place.

The world is a lesser place without these visionary's.

What would Bhutto of said when faced with this turmoil in her own country? I wonder. Sadly - they have silenced her.....but have they stopped what she began?

1. Belinda... that you???
Or do you have a microphone at my desk? I was just saying this exact thing to my co-worker... I'm talking verbatim!

She was a threat to the powers-that-be, she would have changed things in a positive way for her people. Just like MLK... JFK... RFK... only the good die, and only the bad benefit.

5. must be something else in the air
I am a simple canuck. No microphones, or eavesdropping by me! Sorry if I frightened you - it was just on my mind, and out of my fingers onto the keyboard.

9. Because
The bad guys will stop at NOTHING!

I've always thought the assassinations in the 50's and 60's were all connected, as one can easily notice that they were all more liberal, and all speaking against the status quo.

10. Truth is in the air... all over the world...
We breathed the same truth this morning. No spy technology needed:)

I'm always very happy to see people in countries other than the US who are breathing in the same truth.

:hi:

17. What I wouldn't do to see that again.
I want to see something like what happened to Mussolini or Ceausescu,

Maybe whack Musharraf, or Mugabe, or Than Shwe, or Kim Jong Il. They have it coming. Why can't we see those bastards take a dirt nap?

21. It's got to be the people who do it though
and not some lone assassin or terrorist.

Ceausescu's end fit the bastard (and his wife too)...I knew a Romanian who claimed his uncle was one of the executioners...he said the wife (and she was evil incarnate) was running around like a chicken looking for escape and screaming how they were a bunch of "ungrateful children". A pathetic ending to a pathetic dictator.

7. So says - Musharref?
And yet - what charges were brought up against her? No - instead Musharref took over via military coup - declared himself dictator, allowed Al Qaida to operate within Pakistan's borders, and Osama Bin Laden to survive, allowed nuclear secrets to be sold to the highest bidder via the Khan network - and then let Khan walk away - oops.

Sorry - Musharref has no credibility. Even less now that his main opponent for elections has been shot and killed.

18. This is coming from my father-in-law and his brothers
They are from Pakistan (and kinda grew up with Musharref so may be biased).

Anyway, during Bhutto's rein her husband demanded a commission from whoever did business with the Pakistani government. There are good, unbiased reports of her family having hundreds of millions of dollars in Swiss banks. This did not come from lucky investing.

I don't believe Musharref but he is not the sole source. The same judiciary we were lionizing for standing up to Musharref was trying to put her and her husband in jail. It took executive clemency/pardon to allow them to return.

The good guys fight fair, and the bad guys don't. It's an intractible human problem.

15. Spend an hour researching her and get back to me.
She came from a corrupt family who was exiled for fleecing the Country. Didn't her Hubby go to jail for 8 years? She was a criminal in bed with the US and Taliban Islamists. I know everyone wants to believe the good in people. She was a tool that was being planted into Pakistan by US operatives, that is why the media showed in Mother Theresa like photos (what a joke). Common to the rumor, Musharraf and Shrub are not friends nor allies. He is only doing what has to be done to TRY to have an orderly switch to Democracy. When will the sheep ever learn there is a religion that wants to take over that country and it is a delicate balancing act holding it all together. Here I'll get you started, believe what you wish. http://www.militantislammonitor.org/article/id/3252

Edited on Thu Dec-27-07 12:06 PM by maxsolomon
she may have been corrupt, it may have been a witchhunt. it is probably both.

regardless, she had the love & support of millions of pakistanis - and if you trust that Musharraf is "only doing what has to be done to TRY to have an orderly switch to Democracy", you have a lot to research.

ultimately, Musharraf is for Musharraf.

oh, and welcome to DU. enjoy your visit.

16. Because this is how REAL power operates.
When it is threatened, it removes the threat.

Even here in the "world's greatest democracy": JFK, MLK, RFK.

The ISI has been cultivating its connections with Muslim Extremists for a reason. They just called in some chips.

20. WTF? Bhutto listed along with MLK, Ghandi, etc?
You must be smoking some powerful shit. She was a corrupt politician who built great personal wealth off of her political power, and was rightly exiled for it. This revisionist history shit is mind boggling. Does Jeffrey Dahmer make your list of America's great culinary talents? Was Jerry Falwell one of the great spiritual leaders of our time?

For fuck's sake - it's just embarrassing to read this sort of tripe on one of my favorite websites.
