This year, we did something we have never done on Christmas Eve ...

we sat in total silence for about five minutes. Why? Well ... my niece got Pink's "I'm Not Dead" CD and I happened to mention the "Dear Mr. President" video that was filmed at Wembley. No one had seen it, so I turned off A Christmas Story, switched to the "On Demand" music channel and played it for everyone.

All twelve of us sat there in total silence while watching. My family has never been that quiet during a holiday celebration. When it was over, we all looked at each other and realized that we had the best gift in the world ... and it didn't cost a dime.

4. It's a powerful video.

There we were, sitting around drinking, eating, laughing and opening presents ... and then we were watching tragedy and sadness. Suddenly, no one cared about getting two copies of a DVD or about the sweatshirt that was a little too big. It didn't matter. We were together, we were enjoying ourselves and we were far better off than the people in that video. It's so easy to get caught up in the shopping, the decorating and the general chaos of the season ... and those images reminded us of what's truly important. :-)
