6. same here
Remember when so of the Apollo mission would broadcast at 3 AM? We'd set our alarm clocks and wake up and watch a couple hours of moon walk.

10. Just Like Yesterday...I Was Hoping They'd Go For The Moon
Actually, the first pictures were in Black & White (the color film didn't come out til after the astronauts returned) and I can remember the live broadcast of the Lord's Prayer being read with the first pictures of the moon's surface floating by. The moment and the time was filled with wonder...hard to compare to anything on a contemporary scale.

That year in space was awesome. This was Apollo 8...9 refined the docking systems, 10 would almost land (talk about a tease) and then 11 in July. Every three months there was another flight...and every couldn't help but watch all the things going on...a true communal time for all Americans. Even in the depth of Vietnam, here was something all Americans could point to with pride.

11. I worked on that mission
And we have a copy of that photo hanging on the wall in our living room.

It was a bunch of 24-hour days for us engineers in Houston. I feel haggard just remembering.
