The Iowa Divorce Rate
Edited on Sun Dec-23-07 05:54 PM by CorpGovActivist
I wonder if surprise vote splits between couples have any effect on http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=iowa+divorce+rate">the Iowa divorce rate?

Judging by some of the heated exchanges I've witnessed between significant others during my recent visits to the heartland, I have developed an academic interest in seeing whether there are four-year spikes in the divorce rate there.

The public nature of the caucuses fascinates me. Whereas couples in secret voting states can keep the peace within their home, Iowan couples have to declare their affiliation publicly.

1. Have to declare their affiliation publicly ??
Excuse what may seem an obvious question, but what does that mean ?.

As a british citizen all votes are secret unless you decide to tell, I assumed it was the same in the US in all states

3. I think maybe you are overthinking this thing
I am an Iowa divorcee (sort of) and politics had absolutely nothing to do with it. In fact, we actually agreed on political issues, but we disagreed on everything else. Most divorcees I know are like that. In every state. The caucuses have little to do with it. If folks don't get along, they don't get along. Period.
Many marriages and common law situations are fueled by lust and/or a desire to be with someone. Therefore, they often don't work out. Oh, things may be ok for a few years, but eventually, it all falls apart. So the answer to your question is usually a resounding NO! There are many many facets to any relationship, politics is just one.

4. Straw (Poll) That Broke the Camel's Back?
I suspect you're right, but I'd still find it curious to see if there is a marked four-year spike.

6. Yeah WAY overthinking.
Politics had nothing to do with my divorce. Nothing at all.
