Hey, why don't we challenge Free Republic to a Second Harvest Competition?
It has to be a specific charity, and Second Harvest seems to be the most neutral and the one with the best track record. But, why don't we challenge Free Republic to see which blog collects the most money for charity this Christmas?

23. that's true
The typical Freeper wouldn't come through with a buck to save their own mother.
We'd be in a charity contest with an unworthy opponent.
Sort of like the United States attacking Iraq.

3. an interesting thought --
But most of those greedy, grasping, self-absorbed a-holes think a second harvest is a late run to the package store for *reinforcements*. :puke:

5. Freepers don't believe in helping the hungry
they don't believe in giving anything to anyone but themselves. That's why they say things like " no one should try to be like Jesus because He was perfect, so people shouldn't even try" (actual quote from a Freeper I know who used that excuse to explain why they would never help a homeless person).

6. Actually, if you listen to them they'll claim they give way, way more than Dems do.
They'll say that they give tons and tons of money through their faith-based charities. Way more than Democrats, or progressives of any stripe. That our talk of helping people is just talk, whereas they put their money where their mouth is.

I'm not sure what kind of statistics they are using, but something about them has the distinct odor of bullshit.

9. Their "charity" is very calculated If their money makes it Stateside, they
make sure it will advance their political/religious agenda.

And it's pervasive in their thinking, to make sure they control where their money goes. I have an Evangelical relative who managed to put an end to Christmas exchanges by putting the money in a charity of her choice in our name. You guessed, it. She now doesn't have to come up with a gift for someone she doesn't like, but she makes sure she rewards her own church.

Right above HuffPost.

Have been #1 every time I've checked.

Since we're #10 currently (and often fall off the list) it should be no contest, right Freepers?

25. Those morans would never go for it.
1) They don't care in the slightest sense regarding human life after birth.
2) There's a chance that some of them have/will vote for Democratic candidates, and that fear will
prevent them from assisting.
3) They will somehow link any efforts to assist Second Harvest to aiding terra-ists fight Amurika.

27. Or the Fresno Poverello House
Maybe some of those idiots would get a wake-up call as to how Republican policies really work in their fearless leader's city. What's happening to the homeless in Fresno is without conscience or soul.

30. How about Fisher House charities?
Fisher House is run by vets, service members and their families; they provide housing in cities with VA hospitals so that families visiting or staying near injured or ill service members have an affordable place to stay.

It might be more neutral than something that benefits those lazy, shiftless, probably brown, dissolute degenerate po' folks, doncha know.

ironically,

33. Good plan. They've got that "mystery donor"
who pops up every time in the dire straits of their fund raising and gives them a big ol'check to keep them in the black.

Surely s/he(?) wouldn't want to see DU beating out the pet project.

That could end up being a hefty check because, dang, who wants them to end up with crowing rights?
