Propane shortage stops Fisher snowplow production

ROCKLAND (Feb 19): Snowplow manufacturer Fisher Engineering, which is located in the Rockland Industrial Park, has temporarily sent home its production crew due to a statewide shortage of propane fuel. A company representative said he does not know when operations will resume.

We’ve had to shut down production,” Plant Manager Keith Hagelin said Monday. He would not specify how many employees are affected, except to say, “quite a few.”

“While new deliveries of propane are coming into Maine by both rail and truck, the situation remains serious and supplies of the fuel are still tight,” the Governor’s Press Office announced Monday.

A Canadian National Railway strike, which began Feb. 10, has limited propane supplies in Maine by slowing the movement of rail tanker cars.
