Need DU advice
With great horror, I have watched a dear friend being lead into what I suspect was mortgage scam.

Today, he confides that every dime he own is tied up trying to buy a home. He is distraught after receiving a telephone call from his mortgage broker this morning who told him that after being in ‘closing’ for months that there is no one in the office who can finalize the sale.

BECAUSE the only person who can is on vacation.

He is desperate and I do not know how to help him. Is there anything that he can do to get his money back? Or, force these vipers to close the deal?

3. I'd call the district attorney and ask if there is an open file
on that company. Months is a long time for a home. Sure doesn't sound like due diligence, anyway.

4. Aren't there mortgage LAWYERS as well? .. Oh, also try this:
There's this thing called http://www.prepaidlegal.com/. For like $26 a month they'll handle many legal problems for you - I believe they will cover existing legal problems that you have before you sign up. Sometimes something as simple as a phone call or letter from a lawyer on your behalf can get things moving for you when you've hit a brick wall.

5. Definitely
Tell her to get an attorney, this has all the earmarks of a scam, most likely they will use a type of "bait and switch" once they get you to this point you are desperate to close and are much more willing to take anything they offer just to get on with it, then they hit you with something that no one would accept under "normal" circumstances, usually a really bad ARM.. She has been set up and is ripe for the picking... Tell her to GET AN ATTORNEY immediately

6. Thanks for the responses.
And, you all are right. This is not a Do It Yourself situation. Professional help is required.

It was just awful hearing him unravel on the telephone. Again, Thanks.
