I just wanted to acknowledge the person on this site who has inspired me more than any other, NanceGreggs. Nance has set the standard for quality on this site, and I know that I for one am constantly feeling that I need to put a little extra thought into my posts in order to try and meet the high standards she has set. I don't think I will ever be as great of a writer as Nance is, but she has certainly inspired me to be a better writer. Nance knows she is extremely talented, and yet she is so gracious about it. She never tries to put herself above anyone else, and she is always offering praise to others. Nance is the model citizen of DU that everyone looks up to, she has inspired a great many of us and she has told the truth in a way few can match. Let's all show our appreciation for all the great work that Nance has contributed to our community.

I do remember that one of her letters- sorry, don't remember which one- was read on Air America a few months ago- again, I don't remember which commentator- maybe Thom Hartman? She really is a treasure and deserves to be read by everyone. Maybe we should print a "Nance Rants" book and sell it independently? Does anyone have any pull with the publishing business? Really, if there was a book, I would buy a few for gifts and educating certain individuals.

I've copy pasted, and forwarded Nance's fabulous rants so many times it's a wonder folks don't think I have a thing for Nance's pants or make a religion of Nance Chants, or Nance's enhances for my own writing. Golly Gee, I like her too. She once sent me an encouraging word, personally and I took it as far as it would go, but sadly it only went to my head. For a day or so it was like mom telling me I'm her favorite child or something. Yes, she's the walkin, talkin, wonderful Molly Ivins incarnate, with plenty of twist of her own. I read that she lives in Canada though which makes her dubiously suspect.

I can't count the number of times I've said "Exactly!" out loud ot my computer while reading one of her writings. Man, is she prolific, too. The only time in recent past I can remember feeling Nance starved was when she got quite ill and while those wonderful Canadians took great care of her medical needs, she wasn't able to write for a while. Man, I missed it!

And even when I get distracted, I can be assured that my partner, who is also a huge fan, will point me toward an especially good rant.

I - believe it or not - don't have the words at hand to express my gratitude.

In addition, I don't know what the DU etiquette is in terms of appreciation threads - do I weigh in with everyone else, or just read the accolades that somehow seem to belong to some other poster who coincidentally shares my user name?

I don't know how to begin to tell you - all of you - how much of an inspiration each and every one of you are. I constantly see replies that say, "You said just what I was thinking." That's because what you are thinking, and your ability to express it, is the power behind my pen.

There are so many great writers here, and so many of them don't recognize how truly inspirational their words are. I am not just talking about those who write in essay form, but those who express themselves so eloquently in a single sentence that says it all, a single query that suggests a million questions that should be asked and answered, a single post that sparks an avalanche of thought that leaves us all wondering how and why we have been buried under years of political rhetoric that says nothing at all.

I have tried to encourage others in their writing - but have not offered one whit of encouragement more than I have received a thousand-fold from others here.

I have not written a word that has not been inspired by the courage, the thoughtfulness, the humanity of those of you who remind me, on a daily basis, of what is truly important.

I have not expressed a single opinion that has not been informed by the news-gatherers, that has not been contributed to by the truth-seekers, that has not been honed by the talented speakers who express themselves here every day with such eloquence and passion.

It's said that it is an unfortunate part of life that one can choose their friends, but not their family members. And yet you have all become family to me, as well as being friends - and I never tire of the joys the choice of being here has brought into my life.

Thank you all so much for your kindness and encouragement - you are, after all, the incredibly insightful wind beneath my weak-but-passionate wings.
