Romney "Had a Dream" that his father walked with Martin Luther King
from the Detroit Free Press:

Romney fields questions on King
Campaign says claim not literal
December 20, 2007

BY TODD SPANGLER

FREE PRESS WASHINGTON STAFF

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has said he watched his father, the late Michigan Gov. George Romney, in a 1960s civil rights march in Michigan with Martin Luther King Jr.

On Wednesday, Romney's campaign said his recollections of watching his father, an ardent civil rights supporter, march with King were meant to be figurative.

"He was speaking figuratively, not literally," Eric Fehrnstrom, spokesman for the Romney campaign, said of the candidate.

The campaign was responding to questions raised by the Free Press and other media after a Boston publication challenged the accuracy of Mitt Romney's account.

In a major speech on faith and politics earlier this month in Texas, Mitt Romney said: "I saw my father march with Martin Luther King."

He made a similar statement Sunday during an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press." He said, "You can see what I believed and what my family believed by looking at our lives. My dad marched with Martin Luther King. My mom was a tireless crusader for civil rights." ......(more)

3. And Reagan thought he was George Gipp. I had a dream that Romney
was never my Governor, alas it turned out to be a nightmare that was true. Romney is another sociopath running for president.

5. Ahhh just one Question?
Would that be before or after the Morman church decided to accept African Americans? After MLK was dead!
I'd like to be the first to nominate Mitthead for the Stupidest story award! Bravo, WILLARD.

9. Hold on, let's be fair
Mitt may be a world class asshat, but his father was a strong supporter of civil rights, Mormonism notwithstanding.

12. And no one really knows
what Mitt Romney believes. He's such a political whore, it is truly impossible to get to his core beliefs. Or one could argue that he has no core beliefs, which in a way, is almost scarier.

17. He did an interview last week, claiming he heard that the Mormons had changed their rules...
to begin accepting black people into the church on the drive home one afternoon. Apparently Mittens pulled over and began sobbing... he didn't say WHY he was sobbing. We were laughing our asses off at his parsing.

10. the truth is that the father was much better than the son
George Romney was a liberal Republican when there still were liberal republicans and did support civil rights.

18. He coined the term "radical moderate" to describe himself
That was probably just clever marketing. He was a Rockefeller stand in in 1968. He was the first modern candidate ever taken down by "swiftboat" style politics.

19. Romney stated that he saw his dad in a civil rights march in Michigan with MLK
That is not a figurative statement.

It could be if he had stated that he saw his dad march with MLK. But why state it that way when he could had stated that his dad was a strong supporter of the Civil Rights movement and MLK?

But that also doesn't mean that just because his dad was a civil rights supporter that he is too.
