Poll question: Bigotry In America
Edited on Thu Dec-20-07 09:48 AM by ThomWV
Specifically, as regards the possible election of Barack Obama: Do you believe bigotry is still so prevalent in the US that a black man or woman could not possibly be elected to the Presidency today. Yes or no.

3. Agreed. Bigotry would affect Obama's chances, but not enough to lose him the Oval Office n/t

4. Not enough choices! Bigotry exists, but some people/personalities can overcome it
I know I'm over optimistic, but I can't help but think we're collectively less dumb about race. I think celebrity and personality can overcome a lot of bigotry for some individuals; just look at some popular sports stars (for example).

5. Bigotry exists in a small minority....
And we've already counted them out with that 20%. Somehow,Fundamentalism and "family Values" people happen to be the most bigoted. So we know about them.

7. I think that 'family values' is just another code word for bigotry, but what bothers me is ...
In elections in which just a couple of percentage points make the difference it doens't take a lot of die-hard bigots to do their damage.

11. That's true, Thom.
Though I have a strong feeling that we'll be seeing voters coming out in droves this time.

6. The rightwing strategy on Obama is going to be
the whispering campaign that he is connected to Islam.

8. Really poor poll questions! Of course bigotry will effect the elections - DOH!!
Edited on Thu Dec-20-07 10:07 AM by HughMoran
What a "don't give me a reasonable answer to choose" poll!

How about:

"Barrack Obama can be elected here IN SPITE OF the bigotry that is pervasive in parts of this country"

9. If my redneck son who uses the "N" word says
he is going to vote for Obama, then he has an excellent chance for the Presidency.

10. Why aren't you asking about mysoginy? As much as I dislike
Hils I think her problems are even worse. Because men of all colors don't want to vote for a woman.

Just saying.

12. America is defacto segregated
Will a segregated America come together to vote for a black candidate when it will not honestly address its segregation?

It remains to be seen.
