Text of Scheuerman’s suicide note
How sad that this kind of thing happening.

Let's pretend for just a moment that Scheuerman was faking the mental problems just to get out of Iraq. So what? Is this government so desperate for warm bodies to fight Bush's war that they are willing to keep someone in Iraq who has become so obviously dangerous to himself and those around him?

"Text of Pfc. Jason Scheuerman's neatly written suicide note, including misspellings and blacked-out names:

This I leave as my last message to those who I leave behind. I know you think Im a coward for this but in the face of existing as I am now I have no other choice. As the 1st Sgt said all I have to look forward to is a butt-buddy in jail, not much of a future.

I dont want to know what you people think I have going for me to think I should want to live, trust me, I have nothing. I have done nothing but bring dishonor to this unit, myself, but most importantly my family. I wanted one last chance to say goodbye to them but that was taken away like everything else.

Id like also to say goodbye to (blacked out) and (blacked out) the two people that have held me together until now. Split my things up amoung the platoon, after all that why people tolerated me, it's funny how getting your things taken away brings out the truth in people.

Maybe finaly I can get rid of these demons, maybe finaly I can get some peace.

Scheuerman"

1. How sad
It doesn't really say what he felt he did to bring dishonor to himself, his unit and his family. But it's very clear this poor kid was tortured by personal demons of one sort or another, and by the first account I read, the military did nothing but pile on with abuse and threats.

This was avoidable, if anyone in charge had actually cared.

Army tried to make this out as Scheuerman' "fault".

I was a Medical Plt Sgt, and I know that there are highly trained people involved in all aspects of incidents like this, and it should never have come down to this. The Cdr is ultimately responsible for the health and welfare of his troops, how much you want to bet this Capt will never be facing charges, but his career is shot to hell. I have had to work for many different Commanders, most were good, some adequate, a few were real jerks. If the CO had used his brains instead of his bars, he would have done a better job.

There are many things in the story that are far and away things that should never have been allowed, and it appears that some of the NCO's had a pretty decent approach, but that does not delete from the fact that Scheuerman should have been watched a little closer, and the "good/harsh", (like good cop/bad cop) NCO approach should have been used.

Plenty of failures here, but ultimately, the CO is to blame.

5. There is something evil here about the partnership of the APA
and the military.

This is corruption on wheels.

7. How very sad
They took everything away from this man. All communications, No emails, No phone, no way to contact his family.

Did they really think this kind of punishment was appropriate? I sure the hell don't.

I read both stories from the link, and it's amazing that his suicide note was even included with his documents his parents received. Otherwise the family wouldn't even know the reasons why their beloved son did this to himself.

Why oh why:cry:did we fall for such bullshit.

And to think that the sitting pResident would joke about the reasons for sending these kids to fight a war THEY KNEW WAS A LIE. Yeah those WMD gotta be here somewhere. Maybe they were hiding in the Oval Office all along.

RIP, Pfc. Jason Scheuerman:patriot: I hope your family can punish the ones who were punishing you.

10. The family released it...
I believe they wanted the public to see.

"The one-page missive was among hundreds of pages of documents the soldier's family obtained and shared with The Associated Press after battling a military bureaucracy they feel didn't want to answer their questions, especially this: Why did Jason Scheuerman have to die?"
