WITH HEADLINES LIKE THIS: Putin, Scourge Of The US, Named Person Of The Year By Time

He has derided US power, raged against the Pentagon's missile plans, and recently described Americans as "snotty"

But yesterday Vladimir Putin received an unlikely accolade from Time magazine, naming him its 2007 person of the year.

The Washington-based journal said that Putin had returned Russia from chaos "to the table of world power". It conceded that he had squashed democratic principles along the way, but singled out Putin as the person who had had the greatest impact on events, for better or worse.

"He's not a good guy. But he's done extraordinary things," Time's managing editor, Richard Stengel, said.

He added: "He's a new tsar of Russia and he's dangerous in the sense that he doesn't care about civil liberties; he doesn't care about free speech; he cares about stability. But stability is what Russia needed and that's why Russians adore him."

2. Romney: Man of Year choice 'disgusting'

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Count Republican Mitt Romney among those who aren't happy with Time Magazine's choice of Russian President Vladimir Putin for Person of the Year.

In an interview with CNN's Glen Beck, the presidential candidate called the choice "disgusting."

"Clearly General Petraeus is the person, or one of a few people, who would certainly merit that designation," the former Massachusetts governor added.

Rival presidential candidate John McCain also said Wednesday he disagreed with the choice.

“I noticed that Time Magazine made President Putin the Time Magazine ‘Man of the Year,’” McCain said, according to NBC. “I understand that probably, but my man of the year is one Gen. David Petraeus, our general who has brought success in Iraq.”

6. What's funny is that Time chose Bushie Putin to avoid doing the one thing that would enrage morons

like Beck and Romney even more, and that was to award it to the true Man of the Year, Al Gore.

I called all of this months ago, and it's archived on DU (it might even be in my journal, though I don't remember whether I added it or not.

They would do ANYTHING to avoid naming Gore and getting the concentrated shrieking wrath of the Bushie Sub-Media and Lie-Laundry, the Mighty Wurlitzer.

The little bit of flack they are getting for nominating Bushie Putin is NOTHINg compared to the torrent of shit the Mighty Wurlitzer would have blasted them with if they nominated Al Gore.

It really is as simple as that. Totalitarianism is simple, boring and predictable.

What did Time do in response to this fear? Why, they acted in the Amerikan way, they cowered, qualied, surrenedered and submitted.

"Just leave us alone," they said and with few exceptions, the Bushie Sub-Media will comply as part f their massive media "behavior modification" program.

Oh brother. Russia's never had much of a democratic tradition, not under the Czars, not under the Soviets, although certainly additional democracy for those who looted the former USSR and put state assets in private hands. But for most people, there were no additional democratic principles to squash under Yeltsin either.

And when it comes to food and shelter vs democracy, people will choose food and shelter every time. There were plenty of shortages of both under Yeltsin.

But stability is what Russia needed and that's why Russians adore him."

Precisely... I fully expect in the not too distant future, the USA will have the same choices to make.
