does the media seriously think that a man of Edwards character would cheat on his DYING wife
let alone blow up his successful campaign?

1. You never know what can happen in a person's head.. but it would
be absolutely, freaking stupid of him to even flirt with another woman, let alone get one pregnant. He may come from the south, but birth control is available there too.

2. They don't think...actually, they don't CARE.
What's it to them? They got a credible source, namely, the National Inquirer or something. I gues Edwards now hasta prove it's not true.

The Inquirer is generally pretty careful who they libel, after a couple of very expensive lawsuits (Carol Burnett). I guess liberal politicians arfe always fair game, though.

Well, to be fair, they did publish those pics of the drunken Bush girls falling all over each other.

3. THEY don't think so,
they just need YOU to think so!

I'm no fan of Edwards, but that was just despicable, and no one deserves it.

9. This story is begining to build up everywhere on the internets
Edwards has to come out NOW and attack the source! Kerry sat back too long when the Swift Boat veterans came out before he said anything. The same thing happened with Kerry and the intern. Edwards HAS TO do something or this could hurt him.I just can not believe he would be that cruel and stupid. The right wing wants us to question if he would do this. If WE question it, than an average potential voter in Iowa will as well and thats my theory behind all this.

They just want to make the claim so the damge can be done. After Iowa they can say, 'Oh sorry, we made a mistake" or just ignore it and wait for the next Dem before they play the same game. I find it odd this story came up on the very day it was announced that Edwards was ahead in the polls in Iowa. This smells like Rove all over it!

8. The question is: Was someone's campaign behind it?

I think the Republicans would hate to end up against Edwards in the General. I wonder if someone is paying someone to keep this story alive right before Iowa?

10. You just wait and see how ugly this is going to get. If Edwards wins in Iowa
He is a threat to every stinking corporate parasite in and outside of DC.
Even the corporate Dems will join in on the feeding frenzy.

11. They don't have to think that. Saying it causes clicks.
People read about it, write about it, talk about it.

And important issues are left behind.

They get adviews, click traffic, etc. More sites talk about the story to drive up their hits, their adviews.

The media picks up on it because the celebrity scandal culture likes to hear about it, and the advertisers want those eyeballs.

It doesn't matter what they think, or anybody thinks. It sells.

22. Oh yes they do-let's have equal smearing of candidates shall we?
Oprah is doing Obama. Someone on DU said they saw this in a tabloid. NO I don't have a link.

And Hillary is doing her young beautiful female Muslim aide-Huma. OH yes, there are many links on that. But I won't link them. I would say all these rumours are trash.

BUT Edwards one gets national attention-Don freaking Imus-why is that? Hmmmm. I smell a threat.

14. is the media besides the Enquirer? imo the Enquirer looks at stories with a
cost benefit analysis, will this make us money? If they sue will we still have come away with a profit? Is the corporate owned media cartel letting the Enquirer do all the dirty work and then if it gets some traction will they cover it a a "Purported story"?

16. Oh, don't give it this much bandwidth.
Pay attention: they did not use the possessive apostrophe. THEY KNOW it's not his baby. THEY KNOW it's the baby of an associate. If they knew it was his baby, they would have used the apostrophe. It isn't a typo. They are telling the truth, but in a way that catches fools...like anyone who would bring this dreck to DU.

out groceries check the the magazine racks as you wait.

The MSM are not covering these things.

24. Yeah, even though Newt's wife wasn't technically dying.
She still had cancer. But unlike Repugs, Dems don't seem to generally look upon "My wife has cancer" as a license to cheat.

20. Please don't count Elizabeth out yet
While her cancer is not considered curable, it is considered treatable. My friend's sister has survived nearly 20 years with this kind of cancer.

That said, no I don't think John would cheat on her after all they've been through together.

25. The story's chances are possible, but unlikely - people cheat. My question for you is:
Why do you assume that Edwards has such great "character"? What has he ever done in his life to distinguish himself as any more trustworthy, sincere or caring than the average? He certainly implies or even tells us that he is so, but that doesn't prove anything.
