Condoleezza Rice in Iraq - denies helping Turkey
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=310300

U.S Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, on a surprise visit to Iraq, has said the U.S is opposed to Turkish military offensives into Northern Iraq.

She was referring to Turkish airstrikes on villages and positions of the Kurdistan's Workers party in Iraq's Kurdish Autonomous Region over the weekend.

At a press conference in Baghdad following her talks with the Iraqi foreign minister, Ms Rice said any decisions for incursions into Iraq were made by Turkey.

Reports claimed that Washington gave Ankara the green light to launch the strikes but Ms Rice said the U.S had warned military strikes by Turkey would cause civilian deaths.
