How much "change" do we really need?
Should we just accept that the present status quo, with corporations and special interests controlling the laws that are passed in Congress? "Change" of any major proportion is too much to expect? We need to elect someone who realizes from an historical perspective where we are as a nation and the direction we are going. Do we really want to go there? All we really need is just a change in the political Parties and America will be much better off? How much "change" do you want? What is your opinion?

1. Here comes the new boss, same as the old boss.
I am expecting more changes in the climate than I am in the state of the Corporate States of America. CSA
But it is a nice to think that someone , perhaps Edwards, who understands what we are facing could get in and shame the others into action but I am too old and have been too disappointed in the past to put much stock into such a dream.

It took the riots in '68 to bring the racial issues to the living room TV viewing public
but any such action would cause an even greater loss of rights to protect CSA from home grown terrorists.

I really suspect that until the corporations go broke we will be under their giant thumbs and we will be concentrating on staying warm.

2. Major change, total shift in mindset
I posted my opinion on how we got where we are now and why we need to change a couple of hours ago, sank like a stone so I figured I'd just let it die.

What we need to do and what we're willing to do aren't going to work out to the same thing I don't think, we aren't ready to see what went wrong yet. We need a total shift in mindset and the way we approach things. Or maybe I'm wrong, I don't think so though.

3. I'm ready for real change
unfortunately, history has shown us it will take a real catastrophe (Civil War, Depression) for real change to happen.

5. Political parties
Some will hate me for saying this, but the political parties have become so blurred that I don't think a Dem president will result in real change in the overall sense of things. Sure, there will be smaller shifts in policy, court appointments, social programs, etc. All well and good. But in terms of major change, i.e., the depleted middle class, oppressive taxation, buying power, education, social injustice, lobbying, etc., things will move along pretty much the same way.

Corporations and the politicians who enable them are still the status quo, despite the party affiliation. Those who wield power will want more power, and will enact more laws to enshrine that power. It's the nature of the beast. And while we all want a Dem victory in 2008, I don't think the overall state of the country will change much.

8.  i don't want to just accept anything , however
At this point in time seeing what the corporations have done and how much more power they seem to now hold which includes this global economy crap and out sourcing and buy outs . It has all become in the control of a few .

In light of this I fear it will have to be a disaster of some sort to break this trend . So far most of the population has not tried to fight this , they continue to buy and spend which is really the only way people have of fighting their power grab .

Even with a Dem as president , how is one person going to turn this around . I really don't hear much from candidates on this subject as far as a solution to this enormous problem .

In a way we have crossed the point of no return with this global economy being so called free trade when in fact it's not .

Like it is said capitalism seeks the best deal on labor , people don't matter .
