At the very least it means they still fear the machinations of government. They do not have ful control, and that's a good thing.

184. Agreed.
As soon as I saw a headline yesterday linking the fire to Cheney's office area I knew what was coming. There are only two things as corrupt as the executive branch of this administration: the legislative branch and the judicial branch. Canada is looking better all the time.

I'm not sure if they are still used or not, but it would be an easy explanation. Of course a "few" file boxes may have been "sitting too close" to the fire.

60. Well, they're aging -- Arlen Specter still with us; should be in jail--!!
..but as we can see from Shrub, the younger generation is moving up and perhaps even more
brutal and ignorant than what we've had before?

Cheney and Rumsfeld, I presume, are the originals ---

As we can see now --- only Nixon could have succeeded LBJ --

Had RFK made it -- or later, Muskie, McGovern we might have been able to investigate and move these people out.

Things have just gotten way more complicated as the criminal acts and the need for coverups has grown.

Now we're dealing with the threat of a privatized military!!!

That's one point I always go back to with any wingnuts I encounter--the destruction of Mesopotamia. Their response is usually along the lines of "bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb bomb Eye-ran." And as long as the Maladministration's collective asses are saved, the OEOB means nothing to them, either.

The crawler says that the Secret Service says there is no sign that the fire was intentionally set. WTF is the secret service doing investigating the cause of a fire. Oh yeah, they're experts at that sort of thing aren't they? They just accidentally poured gasoline in a shredder and damned if it wasn't struck by lightning. Damned the luck.

I can hear the shooter now telling Congress he was just getting all those emails and memos packed up and ready to deliver them. Damned the luck

Come on Kucinich and Wexler, get those impeachment papers printed on asbestos and start the process today!

59. The San Diego fires started in Portreo, where Blackwater wants their
training grounds. Where the city counsel was facing recall for allowing Blackwater to come in. Where, after the fires, that city counsel was recalled anyway (by paper ballot), and a new anti-Blackwater board is now in place. Portreo is a pretty conservative place; very quiet, laid back, with tough, back country folk living there.

I wouldn't put anything past the Neo-Cons in the frantic efforts to hang onto power. Fires, mysterious deaths (Pat Tillman), memory loss, lost documents). Desperate people without consciences are capable of horrific things.

161. I despise both of them with all my heart.
These two are by far the worst crooks I've seen in the White House during my lifetime - and Truman was president when I was born! The fact that they have been able to get away with every single thing they have wanted to do as a stunned nation just sits and watches as if it were something on TV is absolutely infuriating. Pure evil, acting in the open for seven years and counting, with nothing whatsoever done about it by anyone anywhere.

We can't impeach. We can't outvote. We can't override. And so this sociopathic, deeply sick administration, representing a small minority of (un-)Americans, just rolls on and on year after year, destroying everything in its path. It's maddening.

135. Check out this photo of Cheney - that's a guilty smile...
// Flames did not reach Mr. Cheney's office but it sustained smoke and water damage, according to his spokeswoman, Megan Mitchell. He usually works inside the White House itself.

Fire Department spokesman Alan Etter said smoke was coming from telephone or electrical equipment, but the cause of the fire was not yet known. There was no indication of terrorism. //

139. WHY is There NO Democratic Response to ANY of Their Destruction of Evidence?
When does destruction of evidence finally become an impeachable offense, again? They showed the fire on "Countdown," with that annoying guest host, and the flames were so powerful and raging, that you know it must have been made up of thousands of papers...The line they all gave for the cause of the fire was "faulty electrical wiring," and so apparently, the one room was wired completely differently than was the rest of the building, or maybe only that one room in the whole building had electricity, or, something. I just heard something a few days ago about the huge increase of the number of paper shredders used by the Bush White House, and the huge increase--by the millions--of the number of papers shredded and destroyed, many times the number of any other Administration, but I can't remember the exact multiple of the increase.

They do not even bother to cover up or disguise these things anymore, because nothing will ever happen to Harry Reid's "dear Republican friends." One laptop computer after another with the personal information of millions of people, is "stolen" from this or that Department, then--magically--it reappears; hugely unlikely if it were really stolen by a non-Administration person. Then, when Rove has all the data, it is "found" again. How many computers, with all their data, have there been, alone? How many millions of secret-classified documents, that were publicly available before? How many break-ins to the computer messages of Democrats and their staffs, such as when the break-in at Sen. Dick Durbin's computer was traced back to McConnell, Republican leader of the Senate? Destroyed videotapes of CIA torture; blacked-out sections of the Sept. 11 report, complete refusal to testify at Committee hearings on all topics, every topic. Isn't complete and total destruction of evidence, and no explanation obstruction, and impeachable?

They are responcible to keep them and provide them when asked to do so. It can be said that if they weren't playing games in the first place and coughed them up then this fire wouldn't have done anything and there's no proof of that being the case either.
edit to add:
Add charges of contempt and obstruction of justice too.

143. Democratic Underground Makes the LA Times
WASHINGTON -- A fire in an electrical closet near Vice President Dick Cheney's ceremonial office forced the evacuation Wednesday of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building next door to the White House -- and sparked Internet chatter speculating on nefarious activities in the vice presidential suite.

The vice president was in the White House West Wing when the fire broke out about 9:15 a.m., White House officials said.

The fire was contained to the closet, but the elaborate floor of mahogany, white maple and cherry in the vice president's office was under water, White House Press Secretary Dana Perino said. Thick black smoke "fairly filled" the second through fifth floors, she said. It billowed from an open doorway and cast a pall across the White House's north lawn.

Perino was conducting a briefing for reporters, taking questions about the CIA's destruction of videotaped interrogations, when firetrucks arrived next door. Smoke was pouring through a corridor of the Eisenhower building, and flames on the second floor could be seen briefly from the White House grounds.

Almost as quickly, the fire took on a political cast.

The website Democratic Underground lit up with comments and questions from readers: "Too many documents to shred," nradisic posted at 9:48 a.m. "What records are being 'cleaned up?' " asked Botany, two minutes later. "What all is going up in smoke?" asked gratuitous, at 9:53 a.m. :toast:

They're obviously making fun of DU. They post the DU comments, and back them up with a "humorist," a conservative calling them insane and then an "official" statement noting no documents were lost.

149. Above the law, beneath contempt
The lack of integrity is matched only by the lack of shame. They don't even care that we KNOW they are crooks, because they destroy evidence with impunity. These people are all about destruction...WTC, Constitution, reputations and lives of their critics, any and all evidence of their actions. And nobody can do a damn thing about it. It's time, people. Grab pitchforks and torches and descend on DC.
