Thank you Senator Chris Dodd!!!
Edited on Mon Dec-17-07 07:47 PM by Zodiak Ironfist
You have shown the same courage today that Kucinich showed by introducing Articles of Impeachment against Cheney...the same courage that Kerry showed when he tried to filibuster Alito.

And you admitted your failures while you did it...you admitted that you were silently complicit and will take it no more. Thank you...that took courage.

Courage, it's what people will vote for.

(by the way, I was in a moment of despair thinking about this FISA issue and the FCC issue, and BAM! BAM!, in fifteen minutes the good Democrats came out fighting. Thank all 25 or so, but especially Dodd!)

We need someone that knows and respects our laws governing our security and peoples' civil rights!

15. Only one problem...
How many besides him will remain in the Senate to show the same courage when necessary?

It's a question I asked myself today, anyways. Still have no answer...just the question.

30. However, do CT Dems get any credit for sending Dodd to the Senate...
... while senators from New York, Illinois, and Delaware couldn't bother leaving Iowa for something this important? Of course not, only ALL the blame for Joementum.

Not nearly enough, though. Dems are still on the defensive, and that's a puzzle. And a huge disappointment.

11. K&R with a sad exception..."Courage, it's what people will vote for"
Thanks for including Kucinich in your post, as to the courage comment if that's what people wanted then Dennis would have more support.

Sadly it appears more people will vote for compromise than courage :(

13. I am not so sure about that
What I have heard from most people is that they simply do not know the character of any given politician if you ask them. They just know "Democrat"...and that is it. They do not know which are the compromisers and which are not. It's all personality as determined by the mass media.

I had to study the entire Senate's vote for two years before I learned the way the wind was blowing.

The problem is that courage like Dennis' get's squashed under the gatekeeping mass media. Dodd's most likely will, as well, but I sure have noticed and will tell as many as I can. But I still believe people vote for courage...it is just that they are not allowed to see it when it happens.

17. Yes, if people know and are not swayed by the media
defined "First Family" they will vote for those who showed courage. As you pointed out, the media does play such a large part in selecting our candidates, as do those who continue to keep alive the idea of having to vote with their party.

Also there is "acceptable courage" and "unacceptable courage"...Dennis crosses the line when he wants to actually introduce a single-payer system instead of just say he will fight the insurance companies.

From what I saw Dodd was wonderful today :)

35. I Have Been Really Impressed With Chris Dodd for a While Now
This is why I support Dodd, and would feel just fine if Dodd actually won the Presidency, which I don't really expect, though. Every now and then, Dodd really blasts Bush, and craven Democrats, and has more and more lately been thinking about the creeping facism and withering of the rule of law, and all the thousand little steps of "oh, well, this one little thing won't be a problem," and "oh, well, that one little violation won't really be a problem"--possibly hearing the anger and fear of people on the campaign trail. Also, recently, Dodd referred to trying, vainly, to get the oppressive credit-card-industry-written Bankruptcy Bill defeated, and how all the three top Senators/former Senators, supported it; that was impressive to me. Standing up publicly against the embarrassing, cowardly Harry Reid, though, and gaining a real victory here by postponing it until January--where you hope they will pass the Judiciary Committee version of the bill, with no immunity--was very impressive, and sadly almost unheard of nowadays.

Dodd was also really great on a Charlie Rose show a while ago; very intelligent and deep, and mercifully free of the unfortunate "back-slapping" style that comes up on the campaign trail. Dodd is a real scholar of the institution of the Senate, the law, the system of checks-and-balances, of history, and public service as a noble calling and lifeblood of a society. If you've ever heard some of these other kinds of comments, or the bravery of fighting, as with the filibuster yesterday, very well-organized and done, then you know why some of us here are impressed with Chris Dodd, who, "oddly," has gotten no media attention.
