Six inches of new snow and a Corgi.
The little monster loves the snow, even when it's chest deep.

1. We've got 8" and more on the way.
I'll see if I can get pictures of our dog bounding through the snow. He's so happy to have it this deep. :) Looks like your doggie is happy, too.

Here in Indiana, we're expecting some wind to go with the white stuff.

They're saying wind here, too, and basically telling everyone to stay home. No church for us this morning.

4. I dig the first picture.
The background has a larger feel to it; then the pooch with the bewildered (?) look on his face... my interpretation is that of desolation.

Plus, none of the snow is yellow...

6. My Schnauzer does, too. He chomps huge mouthfuls of it.
He's going on 14, but he acts like he's 5 months old, jumping into drifts and getting buried. He also loves it because the yard is his canvas!

7. you guys are lucky
my pooches (a 10-year old dachshund going on three and a two and a half-year old Norwich terrier going on, well, two and a half) won't deign to put their delicate paws into something as cold, wet and "icky" as (gasp!) snow ... or, as we call it here in NYC, slush.

They just spend the day looking at me with those wide "why can't we go outside and walk?" eyes until I -- you got it -- take them outside to walk. And then it's a predictably mad scramble back to the front door, woeful eyes accusing me of playing some horrible joke on them.

But, hey, they DID want to go out, right?

10. Yes. My calico cat reaches up to the doorknob in her "Outside now" request but then when I open the
door she plops her butt down on the floor and gives me the look that says, "Wrong outside, unacceptable. Get me the outside that has the chipmunks running around in the grass. Now."

9. We've been looking forward to the winter...
Last winter was his first, and he loved it. The summer was not a happy time for him -- he really hates the heat. When the temperatures dropped, he wanted to spend more time outdoors. And today, he's in heaven.

11. When Bo, my black lab, was alive .. he almost made snow fun for me, too.
He absolutely LOVED retrieving in the snow, porpoising through it with tail wagging in the air. When I had to shovel the drive and toss the snow over the fence, he'd attack every shovelfull ... even as the pile of snow got twice as high as the fence. Black labs KNOW how to find the fun in everything.

22. same with our black lab
She was born in march of this year so this is her first winter and she absolutely LOVES the snow. What my wife did was take our 30' leads and just put the handles over the height adjuster on our mower (it aint gonna move) and we just open the garage door, put the leads on and let them go. We also have a pure Siberian husky so we now have 2 snow dogs, and when i am out shoveling they are playing in the piles I just made.

Edited on Sun Dec-16-07 01:27 PM by wienerdoggie
He runs outside and does his business on shoveled surfaces only (front walk, patio) and then runs back in, unless I go out with him and trample the deep stuff for him in the yard.

edit to add: my Weimaraner, of course, LOVES snow. The deeper the better.

Despite the ridiculously low bar, I'm pretty certain that Corgi didn't clear it.

They cost about the same as other purebred dogs...
Ours was around $600 from the breeder as a puppy.

They can cost a LOT more if you get them a little
older after their coats really come in and they've
proven their worth in a couple of shows of course.

We didn't want to breed him (good thing, as he had
an undescended testicle and as a result could never
have been shown), we only wanted him as a pet!

His line is actually FROM Texas, where they use them
to herd cattle. That's what they're bred to do -- low
to the ground so they can run between their legs.

There are two kinds of Corgis.

The Pembrokes, which are USUALLY reddish and white
(but can be tri-color) and have NO TAIL;

and the Cardigan, which have a wider range of
coloring, including "merle" coats and HAVE TAILS.

They are GREAT house dogs, so I really have no idea
why you don't see many more of them.

Pembroke:

Really cool picture of a Cardigan (sorry, big!)
