Edited on Sat Dec-15-07 05:08 PM by annabanana
On the air now. According to CNN, the tongue lashing that Papaua New Guinea gave the US tipped the scale, and the US finally caved and decided to go along with the rest of the world!

4. and in the "bad news" part of the story:
"Environmental groups said the new pact makes the agreement less forceful than it might have been, but agreed that it is probably the best that could be had given the Bush administration's staunch objections."

6. Plus, It's Still The Bush Administration
and everyone knows when they say they'll do something, they don't.

The acting member of the US delegation is this PNAC member and neo-conservative scary woman named Paula Dobriansky.

9. "Psst. Hey, US negotiators."
"Have we ever discussed any of our old-time recipes with you? You could be part of one, if you don't sign on."

On the other hand, this treaty has to be ratified by congress and Dear Leader will simply try to gut it with a signing statement.

11. The quote of the day
"The US has been humbled by the overwhelming message by developing countries that they are ready to be engaged with the problem, and it's been humiliated by the world community," said Bill Hare of Greenpeace.

"I've never seen such a flip-flop in an environmental treaty context ever."
